Splenda was invented when a guy was working on a new insecticide and came up with something sweet instead. The organo-chlorines it's made with are fat soluble...meaning - hello - that people losing weight are at the highest risk of problems from a lethal substance (closely related to Agent Orange).

"Resulting problems may be weakened immune function, irregular heart beat, agitation, shortness of breath, skin rashes, headaches, liver and kidney damage, birth defects, and cancer. Worse yet, it can affect future generations because it can affect DNA.

I cannot use Splenda right out of the packet/box - but I CAN eat it if its like, say ..in sugar-free things (jello, pudding, popsicles)... weird huh? I try to avoid those things as much as I can though - they upset my stomach if I eat them too much.

I can use Sweet-N-Low and do use that in my coffee every morning - but Equal gives me massive headaches. Odd...

I'd rather use plain ol' natural sugar any day of the week however - its natural and what people used for hundreds of years. I dont eat margarine, I use only real butter and only very sparingly. Why? Well - because have you ever looked at the molecular structure of margarine? It's not very far off from being tupperware I assure you

- our bodies cannot digest it, it sticks to your arteries, ugh, no thanks. What does butter come from? COWS - I'll take that any day of the week

.

I think thats the problem now a days - everything is "made/invented" - if we went back to what we ate 100 years ago I think we wouldn't have half the issues we have now; arent we all going back to the "natural" way of life in our society? Trying to do more homesteading, organics? ... but thats just my .02

(ETA: my spelling ...ugh - I sooo need spellcheck!)

I try to make anything I can from scratch just about. That is easier since I am a SAHM.
I use one packet of splenda in my coffee otherwise it is sugar in other things.
When people say REAL Butter, what is real butter in the grocery store? Or is none of it real if it is store bought?

Wow!!! Well let me start by saying LOADS of good information! Thank you!

I haven't noticed any headaches when I drink a diet DP, but I haven't really thought about it either. There are days when I really feel like I NEED that extra, a soda. We have stopped buying soda for at home, we have been doing this for about a year, maybe more. But we do still drink it when we eat out...however, eating out is drastically reduced too.

Veggies are not a welcome sight on our table.....I fix them and the kids AND my husband groan. I keep trying.

We drink sweet tea. About a gallon a day, with one cup of sugar in it.

Before I try the Stevia, please tell me it DOES NOT taste like black licorice! I HATE that stuff, and ANISE too... YUCK!!!

I agree that we need to go more natural. At our house it is a work in progress, I have the chickens, so the eggs are home grown, and we are planning on a much larger garden next year. Hopefully, things will keep progressing in the right direction.

I think they mean butter as opposed to margarine.

I use Splenda in the form of Da Vinci sugar-free syrups. Since I lost a lot of weight, cured my hypertension, don't smoke, and drink only on occasion, I don't stress AT ALL about using Splenda.

Some Stevia DOES have a bit of a licorice aftertaste. Unfortunately, it is too expensive for me to try a bunch of brands to get one that doesn't taste yucky. Stevia is also very tricky when it comes to amount. Not enough and your stuff isn't sweet. Too much and it is nasty. Getting it just right is really hard.

Ooohhhhhh......

Duh!

(Sorry, waiting for caffeine to kick in)

I imagine organic. I just buy whatever is on sale since my budget it tight.

I make mine on occasion. Costco sells some good cream that isn't ultra pasturized. If I can't use it fast enough, it goes in to the food processor

Thats okay, I love the taste of country crock, but it does not say if it is real or not

So I was just wondering. Organic prices are to steep for my budget too. After the goats give birth then I can hopefully get them to let me milk them and get some milk and make my own butter! I hope anyway
