splotchy skin

hey i’m new to backyard chickens! my roo (4 month old) white wydonette recently caught a respiratory infection & after two days of oral injections he wasn’t showing any signs of getting better so i started injecting, we are on our 3rd day & as i was wiping him down with antiseptic we noticed red splotchy skin, no other symptoms & he’s even extremely improved from how he was prior (gurgling, trouble breathing, wheezing, not drinking) he’s like a brand new chicken, with that being said we’ve only injected for two days in a row & not finished his full 5 day mark, should we continue treatment? i’m very worried about anything happening to him since we lost my very favorite hen a few days before his sickness started, please give me advice! these are my very first chickens & my babies.

What are you "injecting" him with? Dose?
What "oral injections" were you giving? Dose?

Since he is improving, if you are giving Tylan, just give it orally. Dosage of Tylan 50 is 1/4 ml per pound of weight given orally 3 times a day about 8 hrs apart. Let us know if you have something different.

i’ve been injecting with tylan 50 1cc in the breast meat, only splotchy on his chest right where his breast bone is. sorry i wrote it quickly trying to get answers before the night ends.

Tylan can cause some muscle damage in some cases, so that is why most chicken owners give it orally. As long as the crop is emptying normally, it should work as well. The injectable will get to work more quickly when starting out.

update: we decided to inject due to not being able to see & locate their esophagus, scared we would drown them & possibly kill, both of their skin seems dry & flaky. freckles just has red splotchy on his chest. searched for mites but am not entirely sure what i’m looking/searching for so i was so research later to see what to do. i hope what i did was right, am just very scared of killing my babies. i watched numerous youtube videos on what to do & what not to do & almost everyone says orally is a very high risk of fatality if done incorrectly.
