Spoiling my chooks: is it bad?

How many of you have lost (as is sudden death- from any source) by letting them wander. I pretty realistic and understand and try to not let it bother me. But if something gets little cochin- Ill get the death sentence from my wife.
 
So dar so good down our way. A fenced yard helps. You could always take the 3 cochins we have left, but I'd have to pry them away from the kids. lol

Half the fun of owning chickens is watching them run around in the yard. Any time you allow chickens to free range, there is the possibility of loss due to a predator. Unless you watch them 100% of the time some predator will eventually attack. Some predators will even attack while you are present especially since so many have become habituated to humans.
