Spraying Chickens With A Hose?

Robin'sBrood :

Mine didn't like being sprayed but they got it anyway. My dog didn't enjoy it either, but I think she was happier once she was wet and back in the shade. These poor animals... I wish we could A/C the world right now!

When I sprayed my dog he drank it.

i have one that likes being sprayed and 2 that hate it!! but they watch and get closer so i do it again about the 5 time they just stand there.

On top of this heatwave we're in a severe drought here too, and we have a private well, so I can't leave sprinklers going for fear of running our well dry...

I hope dousing them good once a day is better than nothing.

I have a plastic dishpan that I have been putting out with cold water. Some walk through it - water goes about up to where their drumsticks start - but they usually keep walking right out the other side. I have one EE who loves it, though. He will stand in it and even crouch down to get his stomach and breast wet. I call him the smart one.

Mine ran for cover at first from being sprayed but we have a 2 week heat wave so 4 or 5 times a day I spray them with a fine mist and they just ignore it now .. no running away .. they continue as if I am not spraying them.. they do have the coolest place in the yard under 2 huge pine trees and a 40ft gum tree that shades them but was still too warm for me ( they showed no signs of heat stress a t all) But we also put up shade cloth to give them extra shade and we keep the pine/ leaf mulch damp ... they love scratching around in the damp flooring.. we give them frozen treats and several times a day big ice Blocks to keep their water really cold... they also love standing in puddles.. I am looking for a kids wading pool / sand pit for them to wade in..
