Spreading lime to kill deases

Has anyone used agricultural ground limestone to kill deases in chicken coop? If so is it safe for chickens to stay in coop & still scratch the ground to eat will lime is on ground?

I doubt that it will 'kill diseases', but it might help at the base or in a deep litter system, as the above poster mentions. Mary

I use ag lime to fill holes my girls dig...pack it good or they dig it right back out! As for diseases it helps combat moist condition where bacteria can grown but doesn't actually prevent them. For bug control I use a layer of diatomaceous earth under the litter they also like to take DE baths, preventing mites and lice to get a foot in the door!
