Spring 2017 first timers post!

Pics
Thats a lot of birds! I am so close to finishing, woke up to rain this morning so likely no progress today. Plus we just took on another project that will take time away from the coop if I do not get it wrapped up soon. I will do a coop page when its done, or mostly done its too slow of progress to post as i go here. You will need a pretty big coop for all those birds! My 7 will be quite spoiled in the setup they are getting.

Must. Finish. Coop!!!

You won't regret the LO, they are so cute!!
Also be sure to get them to send it priority express mail.
I have heard it can make a big difference on time. I just received my chicks from MPC and I live in TX, the chicks were drop shipped from Meyers, and it made it here in less than 24hrs

Priority mail express in less than 24hrs is very good!! Ohio-Texas

I can't see your picture.

I dont remember seeing the priority express option. Hmmm...
Yesterday I had a nice chat with a rep from Myer Hatchery concerning our order. It is scheduled for arrival: Tuesday, March 28 through Thursday March 30. We have ordered the following and our "left over" chicks will go to a neighboring farm.
1 ea New Hamshire Red
1 ea Buff Orpington
2ea Easter Egger
1 ea Barnevelder
7 ea Golden Laced Wyandotte
1 ea Black Australorp
1 ea Silver Laced Wyandotte
1 ea Barred Rock
1 ea Meyer Meal Maker All, hopefully, females

During this conversation I asked a number of questions, like how do we tell them apart, pictures from catalog, etc. Was tongue in cheek, hoping they came with name tags! Not. I also asked about shipping as we are willing to pay the extra money for "overnight" delivery especially since we are located in the Pacific Northwest. The customer rep said to me more than once that whether or not I paid the $26+/- OR the $102+/- the chicks would arrived in the same amount of time. He explained that since the box is contains live animals the USPS treats them the same and that, in his opinion, paying for Express or whatever it is called, is a waste of money and would do nothing to enhance the survival of the chicks. He encouraged me to check with the USPS and verify, he had no doubts. From what I have read it seems that if the chicks are shipped and the time frame includes a Sunday or holiday, that could be a problem. Meyer does not ship at the end of a week or during a holiday period. I tend to trust them. Good luck. BB

So, a bad news/good news sort of story....
Our friends are getting divorced, and we're really sad about :( but today I found out they've offered to *give* us all of their chickens and chicken stuff!!
We are happily "adopting" their 4 Rhode Island Reds, which are just under a year old.

I'll probably still get a few chicks this spring, so I'll be reading through about how to introduce the new birds to the old flock.
