Spring 2017 first timers post!

I love them! Did you already post what kind they are?

I bought them from Mypetchicken as 2 Olive Eggers and 1 Blue easter egger. They'll be joining my December flock (Lavender orpingtons,EE'S,barred rock, polish, buff orpington, australorp, and red stars) once they're old enough.

Gorgeous girls! I'm going to be putting my 2 day olds in with my 1 month olds once they're fully feathered and then eventually putting all 11 of those in with my 1 years hens and rooster.

The DH and I got some decent work done on the coop today and yesterday. Fixed the hinges so the doors actually open and close on the shed turned coop. Got the posts for the run set in quickcrete and the rebar set through the first pallet. 26 days and counting!

Will australorps be a good match with wyandottes? I was reading that wyandottes can get a little rude and I wanna make sure that the austras can handle it

Also my wyandottes will be about 2 1/2 weeks old when I get my austras next Friday who will probably be just a few days old can they go together or should I keep them separate and if I need to keep them apart when can I put them together?

As for the breeds getting along they should be fine. My parents had three australorps who held the top three ranks in the pecking order. They are a large bodied, heavy breed so they should be alright :)
As for the age difference when you get them, 2 1/2 weeks is going to be quite a bit bigger than a few days old so it may or may not be an issue. I've know people who have had great luck putting younger and smaller chicks together and had really bad luck. My suggestion would be to divide the brooder in half with some chicken wire and allow them to see each other but not be able to touch for a week or two and then let them mingle with supervision for more time each visit until all seems okay, then mix them together permanently. You can just put them all together and see how they do but be ready to intervene quickly and have a place set up for the others in case. My parents intergrated new chickens and it all looked good for a while until the next morning when we found the three new ones cowering in the corner with many battle wounds and missing feathers. But mature hens are significantly different then chicks, chicks won't usually bully for the same reasons, so they tend to be easier to intergrate together :)
Either way you do it I wish you luck! It's very exciting to have the wee little ones. Ours are all almost two months old now ;)

Got my chicks today! So I think I have them all figured out, but correct me if I'm wrong! The one chilling solo is the Barred Plymouth Rock, and then from left to right I'm thinking Speckled Sussex, Easter Egger, Australorp, Dark Brahma.

It is super fun & exciting! You'll love this sight so much. I just got chickens last spring & now have 22! Chicken math is REAL! Everyone here is so helpful (no one w/o chickens will think you are sane anymore

) so it's a good place to visit & show off your chicky babies

No kidding on the chicken math!! My husband said we'd get 3 chickens to start with (ha!). We currently have 22 & 8 more arrive beginning of May. We are SUCKERS!
