Spring Granny Square Swap

I have been having so much fun this morning going through all my beautiful squares. Kate tell your students how very impressed I am with them!!! In fact I think they need to give me lessons so I can learn how to make such perfect, neat squares! Their talents are just amazing!!! All the squares I received are beautiful and I am thrilled with them! Can't wait for this move to be over and life to settle down again so I can start piecing these together.

I have decided to go ahead and start the next swap once I choose colors but I am not going to make the deadline for submitting them any time soon. I know some folks felt like the deadline for this swap was set too far in advance but I loved the advance notice and I also feel like BYCs platform problems made it harder for folks to follow this swap. That coupled with the fact that it is almost summer time and many folks like to take a break from crocheting during the busy, hot and active summer months makes sense for a later due date. Besides, even with all the hiccups, this swap turned out great! I am very happy with all my squares!

I am going to do a couple things different this time, just for a change of pace. I am going to give folks a choice of 2 color schemes and I am going to tell them that they can make their squares 6", 12" or 6" x 12". As long as they will fit into a blanket that is divided into a 6" grid they should work just fine. I thought it would be fun to have a blanket that is not so straight up and down and even. I like more abstract designs and this next swap will reflect that design aesthetic.

The first set of colors will be the jewel tones and the other set will be neutral earth tones, limited to browns, creams and beiges. The earth tones need to be limited so that they will mix well with the jewel tones. The two color schemes work well together so folks can use them both in the same "squares" without them clashing. There were just not enough choices in the jewel tones for me to stick with this one theme. Too many of these colors together started to hurt my eyes. So unless you all hate this idea that is what I will move forward with. So let me know what you think!

Seriously. I want some input here before I move on with this idea. I may decide to go for it no matter what but want some input from folks so that any issues I haven't considered can be addressed.

Thanks!

Sunny

Thanks Sunny, they've been reading the comments and strutting around like little peacocks heheheh! I think the color schemes are a great idea and being able to make the different sizes to fit together is a good idea too. I liked having a long time to get them done, my students really needed that time. Since it will be just me on this one and possible the young lady who was helping out with the crochet club it won't matter as much but I still need a lot time,,, you can tell by my squares several of the kids outclassed me big time!

Haha Kate! Don't worry, I know the feeling! Their squares are so tight and just perfect! Thank you so much for your feedback on the next swap. I really appreciate it!

Canesisters that afghan is just gorgeous! Looks very much like the cool color theme we went with this time around. Great example of using different sized squares as well! Thanks for the pic!

Canesisters I love it!! The different sizes together give it a whole new look.

Sunny I think for every square turned in and sent they probably did 5 more in practice lol!!

Well, it sounds like they're all coming in. There are still some more boxes in the mail that should arrive this week. At least I hope so. I like your idea Sunny so whatever you decide is fine with me. I like that afghan also. Well, back to the newsletter I have to get out by PDF today. I, too am surprised that we did so well with this swap with all the burps, etc. from the new website. I am still having problems and just go into the main website and check for posts since I don't get notified. It's strange though because I get notification on the "crochet" one.

I laid all the squares out today, swap squares and the ones I made. This is going to be a beautiful afghan. You all made such beautfiul squares. Not only that, but being on the receiving end gives me an appreciation of how much fun it is. I'll probably just donate to the next swap, but knowing how it is to receive will make it that much more fun. The students' squares are great. I can't crochet so precisely.
I like mixing the jewel tones with the earth tones.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I really appreciate the support!

Back to the fabric store this week to narrow down the colors. I'll post a link here and on the crochet thread once I get it all settled.

Alethea I look forward to seeing what your afghan/blanket looks like when it's finished.

Oooooooo I can't wait to see the colors you pick! How exciting!!!! I also like having a long time to get the swap squares done, since it always seems to take me forever to pick a color and a pattern. You picking the brand and the name of the color of the yarn will actually help speed up my getting started process. LOL!!!
