"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

DH told me that if the Brinsea does a good job we can save for another one.

I had been telling him for 2 years that I needed a Brinsea because of all the bad hatches I had. One day he will listen to me.
It's funny....my folks live with me. I had bought eggs to stick under my broody hen, broody hen failed, and had no way to save the eggs. That night, my dad came home with an LG (with a fan). I set eggs, then set more eggs. When we were close to needing to lock down the first batch, he came home with another LG, no fan. (Neither incubator did I ask for) We successfully hatched a bunch of chicks. We broke the 2nd bator putting in a fan. I bought an Incuview. I hate it. But, I still use it - even though I call it my death bator.

I finally broke down and bought a Brinsea 40. I had a GREAT hatch in that. Hatch ended, I put in more eggs. My LG is full (41 eggs in a tray that holds 39) with 3 different staggered batches. I asked out loud, I want to use the Brinsea for a hatcher, since the humidity is so well controlled, but I don't have room to move out the eggs I just started, how am I going to handle that? My dad said "buy another Brinsea". My mom said NO!!!!!!!!!! Sell 40 or so of the chicks you have already hatched and MAYBE get another and ONLY if you get rid of the LG and Incuview.

My daughter LOVES watching the chicks hatch. Loves watching them run around in the incubator, but loses all interest once they move out of the brooder. That tells me to keep hatching!

So, I have one enabler, one enabling encourager and one sane person advising to me. I see another Brinsea in my future....

I wrap all my cords in aluminum foil, but not to protect from bunnies- Cats they are just as evil.
I had a cat that would ONLY chew on the thin cords - like from a baby monitor, or cell phone, and would ONLY chew on them when they were plugged in and turned on, He must have gotten some type of charge out of it. He ended up dying in his sleep from a MASSIVE heart attack - I wonder if it was all the shocking he got in his lifetime.

I keep hoping my cats will get shocked so they will stop doing it. I have replace Sooo many cords, then figured out that they dont like the foil :)

The rabbit chewed his way through my bator's power cord and there are no spare parts available nearby.

I have eggs due to arrive tomorrow!

Here's what you do:

option 1 if there's only 1 broken spot: cut the damaged part off, split the cable in two/remove outer covering if 3 wires. Expose a small bit of wire on both sides of the cable, Make sure that you have the sides of the wire in the right spot (non-ground wire usually have a smooth side for 1 of the two wires with writing, the other has a line running down it), wind the two smooth-side wires together and use electrical tape (or solder it if you're a pro) to hold it together or get some wire connectors and wind the two wires together.

option 2: cut the incubator wire above the damage, get a cheap extension cord, repeat above.

Good luck!
