Everything I've read (here and elsewhere) says at lockdown you increase RH to 65% or thereabouts. I'm not questioning that, but can anyone explain the science of it? Why do we do that?

You don't want dried up chicks. They need a lot of moisture to hatch. The membrane can shrink wrap them.

Anywho. These people know what they are talking about. I did up my humidity and no issues except the chick with curled toes.
All hatched easily and healthy.

Just candled the Rattytwoie egg and it looks like it quit around day 10 :( . But the other 2 baby pigeons are doing well even with this cold weather. I guess I will have to name one of those Rattytwoie... Here's a pic - in case anyone wants to see what a day-old baby pigeon looks like - of Ratty (baby pigeon from new years day HAL). The new babies look exactly the same :p

I have nine ducks, one I assisted to show another way to tell when a chick/duck is ready to come out. ONE GOOSE is out!! has spraddle leg though, will show legs bandaged in a bit Kiddo selfie with her goosers ALL wellsummer OE and Cuckoo OEs hatched but one DIS around day 18 ALL ICELANDIC Shipped Eggs hatched! One died after hatch and have no clue why! RIP little buddy Kiddo putting icelandics in brooder such pretty colors!!

To prevent shrink wrap, they will get stuck if humidity is too low. -Banti
 
Have a hen sitting on 24 eggs that should be hatching within next week, we aren't sure when she finally started to sit on them
putting 47 in the incubator this afternoon
