Well I don't think I want another broody duck or hen cause I can't check on the process. Still have 11 or so days till my eggs are due to hatch and I don't know if they are doing anything. Last hatch from the ducks all but 3 were good till the temp dropped to bad in the house so hopefully the eggs are just as good this time.
I like broody hens because I don't have to check the process, or brood them.

Good Morning!!!

<<Ahem>> May I have your attention please? I have two new chicks! Noticed a little hole in the shell of one about 12:30 in the morning. Got all excited, double checked humidity, and finally went to sleep. Woke up at 4:45 to the sound of very demanding cheeping! Little Olive Egger named Yokel (for @LocalYokel just as I promised I would) and it's so doggone strong! Then later on in the morning I noticed a pip in another egg - and we have a little Cream Legbar! And that was another one that hatched fast....nothing at 7 am, pip at 8, and hatched sometime around 10.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Congratulations

Not sure if I am posting right but as we speak I am on day 22 of my first hatch in a homemade incubator-and we have our first pip and chirping this morning! I feel like an anxious mother.

That being said, these forums and this site in general have saved me-been so much help along the way

Congratulations on first pip. I'm checking in a little later than usual today. Hope to get all the posts read because you are SO right about how helpful the folks here have been.

HELP my hens have come down with a contagious case of broodiness. 4 and counting. So I'm officially in on the April Hal. Approximately 40 eggs.
@Sally Sunshine
WOW! Exciting. I hope we catch a case of broodiness at out house next year.

I'm hoping for a couple more babies at school this morning! There are three eggs that I'm hoping to see hatched or well on their way! One is a silkie and two are Rocks. I also have a back up incubator with a couple of eggs, just in case we had problems with these (don't want to let down my first-graders,) so I should have 4 more hatching tomorrow too. The kids will love that, because they didn't even realize that those would be hatching. I snuck them in from home, when I saw that my hatch was going slower than expected. Peeps and Mikey need some friends.

Can't wait to hear about it! I can only imagine the looks on those kids faces. So special.

Congrats!

Oh my goodness...posts..I see a lot of posts! I can't keep up here.

I did have 4 babies hatch. Those bad air cell ones. Had to assist. When I had waited long enough, and found that the first two I checked were DIS..I started opening others. Only got 2 little ones. :/ But, I think, one is a girl. These little bantam cochins have ridiculous feathers on those feets!
Sorry for your lose. Congrats on your new babies. I can't keep up with the posts either.

Here is her on the nest and she starts hissing and all if you get near the dog house
She is keeping those babies safe and warm. Best of luck to her and her hatchlings. Sounds like you have given her a great home.

I had a Golden-laced Wyandotte Roo over 3 Barred Rock Hens and 3 Black Star Hens. It'll be interesting to see who they favor as they grow up. 23 eggs in the incubator, this is our second hatch ever, the first was just before these eggs went in the incu. 17 out of 19 eggs successfully hatched then, with all 19 pipping. The last two eggs zippered but failed to complete the hatch. I'm expecting good things this hatch considering how active and wiggly the eggs are.
