"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

And so it begins. I had a feeling my eggs would follow suit of the last two batches, and hatch a day early. This evening is day 19, and I have a pip!!!

While it's at the wrong end, I'm not too concerned at this time. I've hatched several that pipped in the same spot, and they've all been healthy and grown into healthy, happyy adults. It can take up to 24 hours before zipping begins, so I think I'm still on track for a Tuesday hatch. I only need another 18 pips... and 19 zips... then I can start to relax. Come on chickies!!!

@Chaos18 I have 6 eggs going in lockdown this afternoon. (Started with 7, 1 was infertile, remaining 6 look good.)

So excited to lockdown the incubator this afternoon with the class that I am hatching for. They have been so excited and have been practicing "cheeping" to encourage the chicks to hatch!
There is nothing better than hatching for a class of students! Have fun! I don't know if it is more special to see the new life, or to see the smiles and excitement on the kids faces, especially when they have never seen it before! Good luck! Have a ball!

Congrats to everyone with new chicks!

I have 7 out of 8 of my Plymouth Rocks hatched out already, and am hearing some peeping from the silkies. I can't wait for them to hatch!

Now that I made it home, today being day 20, there are 3 Marans hatched and one CCL cockerel so far, and a lot of pips, can't tell just how many pips are going, out of 35 total eggs, 14 are Legbars and 21 are Marans. I think my incubator is warmer on the top shelf and cooler at the bottom. This doesn't seem unreasonable. I think I am going to better insulate the incubator. This batch was on the top shelf bracket.
