"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Ok, My incubator did terrible and mostly my own fault, 4 of these guys were hatched by my 10 mo. silki and the little yellow one from the incubator(sultun). The temp of the incubator is at least 10 degrees cooler than the readings. A lot of the eggs got over heated and took longer than 21 days. Ones in lock down now were set April 4, and one hatched yesterday and one today. Will try to be patient and wait until Friday before I give up on them. I think my April hatch is done and if any more hatch I will be surprised. Momma silki took the first incubator chick under her wings and is teaching them all about foraging so awesome to watch.

sorry if you thought I was being mean!  Eggs can get mixed up before leaving a persons or not marked correctly.   I did not know the roo was hatched for a blue egg.   Was just trying to help.   I have seen many EEs colored that way also... so sorry  for offending someone. It wasn't my intention.
I have wheaten Ameraucanas and salmon Faverolle .  knew the color was incorrect..

Definitely not offended. I was upset when the imperfections started coming up with the chickens that hatched from eggs from this particular breeder. I think I have learned my lesson about what questions to ask and really what I want in a flock. I love this rooster regardless of not matching my expectations.
I respect when people step up and point out imperfections in breed standards or flat out misrepresentations of breeds. Misrepresentations happen too often and I am thankful for those that helped me understand it all.
I agree that mix ups happen too. I didn't pursue any argument with the breeder. She moved. I wished her luck. I think she knew she was misrepresenting what she had, but I hold no grudge because I can't be sure it wasn't an honest mix up.
BTW, I love Salmon Faverolles. If I hadn't found Brabanters and Pavlovskayas I probably would have tried to develop a flock myself.

I am posting this for all those who are like me and are super impatient! I had a silkie chick pip around 2 am on Sunday night. Still pipped the same amount today Tuesday at 1:30pm. At 2:30 I decided I was going to help. I go look in the incubator and it has zipped completely by itself. It pushed out about an hour later and STILL had a bloody bleeding navel. If I would have intervened it probably would have bled to death. SO chick was pipped without zipping for 60 HOURS. I could see it was alive and cheeping so I left it go. Chick is doing great :) I am not against helping but you have to give them time to do it themselves....

The new baby's
Very nice Chicken Hawk!

Tried to get the trio in a group pic...they weren't very cooperative until they got tired.

Awwwwww. Mine never cooperate either.

I lost some of my quotes, but just wanted to say I'm loving the pictures and congrats on all with good hatches! Sorry for anyone whose lost chicks, I know how hard that can be and I'm really hoping things go well this hatch for myself and for all you waiting to for your chicks to hatch as well.
I had an eager early hatcher last night who broke out at 1:30 in the morning so loudly she woke me up. I named her April's Beauty (April for short) and she is out under her mother right now, awaiting her siblings to catch up. She was really due on the 27th-29th, but I don't mind them coming out a few days ahead of schedule. : ) Hopefully April doesn't have to wait too long to have some buddies so I can move her and her mother into the pen where they'll get in food and water. Right now they are in a nest box and I'm nervous that another hen will try to lay in there and kick Ruby (the mother) off her nest. They've been doing that all throughout incubation, hints why I took in most of Ruby's eggs and put the in the incubator.
I'll try to get pictures of her soon. The might not be the best, I took them during the night and I was not fully awake.

I hope you see the rest soon.

At least you can look at the positive! :)
This April I think I've hatched over 30 Muscovy ducklings, 10 runner cross ducklings and two peachicks. -Kathy
