Congrats!!! so cute!!Sorry for the delay but it's been busy at work and the pictures were lost for a few days between my wife's phone and my computer. Anyway here are my two Icelandic chicks. They are about 3 days old when these were taken this past Saturday.
This little girl (boy?) hatched first Thursday morning.
This is Bandit due to the masks around the eyes. She/he hatched Thursday evening.
So far, so good. They love the Mama heating pad that I made for them. (thanks Blooie!)
awesome news!!!I have ducklings. Just not sure how many yet saw 3 but they were out from under her. Will check in the morning and try to get a full count and a pic
YAYYYAYY !!!!!!
For anyone who hatches in hovabators, little giants, and the like...
What is your protocol on removing chicks that have hatched and dried off? Do you just leave everyone until the hatch is complete?? Do you remove some when things start to get crowded??
I had a FULL bator for the EHAL and there was NO way uncoils have left then all in there to trample each other and the eggs that were trying to hatch still.
I had a couple of chicks that had pipped but weren't able to fully hatch...I believe both were turned over by the other chicks moving about and then they DIS. However, I can't help but thinking what if "I" caused their deaths by opening the bator super quickly but several times to remove chicks as they ran out of space?
At lockdown I put aquarium tubing and a sponge in a bowl to keep humidity where it should be and that way I didn't have to open the bator for that. But once several had hatched and it became overly crowded, I felt that I couldn't leave them in there.
Ideas? Thoughts? I'm expecting pips to start Fri or Sat here and don't know if I should try anything different this time around...thanks!
