Everything looks good so far. Starting on day five. All 24 eggs just rollin along. Keeping humidity in check this time.

Hmm, well if you insist! Here's the deal..... I will hatch 'lings (and resist the siren song of TSC ....) If yall will help answer my dumb duck newbie questions without laughing. I also need a place to keep these ducks first! (Unlike what @MotorcycleChick says, no, I will not keep them in my bathtub. ) -Banti

What everyone told you, some would say well a hen doesnt raise her humidity.... This is TRue HOWEVER, she doesnt have fans running under her bum to dry the eggs out!

Good point. Of course for the first 18 days we're trying to get the eggs to lose moisture (11-14% of the moisture as I understand). That's why it seemed a bit counter-intuitive to me at first. But the membrane shrinking inside as the chick does its last bit of growth and needs to get into pipping position sure makes sense. Thanks to you and all who answered.

Why? Use a towel for bedding, and take them out when you shower.

Hello I'm new! This is my first time incubating and I have call duck eggs, white pekin duck eggs, khaki Campbell duck eggs, and mallard duck eggs. 5 were set Friday and 7 were set this morning. Any tips are greatly appreciated! I'm using the little giant still air incubator

Questions for ANYONE looking for ADVICE, THIS INFO helps us to HELP YOU!

What bator are you using? little giant still air incubator
where they shipped or your own eggs/local eggs? Shipped eggs = Change of plans
How old were the eggs at set?
They were stored and turned cool conditions?
Have you misted or washed the eggs?
How old is your flock?
Turner or no turner?
Incubated Air cell Upright or horizontal??

Fan or no Fan?
You know temps should be different for Fan vs still air models?
You calibrated thermo hygros and know not to rely on the one that came with the bator?

You have more than one thermo hygro and they had been calibrated?

You have rotated your eggs around the bator at candles?

You realize humidity is NOT a set number just a tool to get the correct weight loss in the egg?
You understand the majority of people for standard hatching eggs run the first 7 days 25-30% humidity (possibly 35%for shipped eggs) and adjusted from there for weight loss?
You understand that you can in fact candle every two days after day 7 to just keep a closer eye on weight loss so you dont need to make major changes later on?
Try to add water above in containters and not in the troughs until lockdown?
You know that you should not use the vent holes to adjust humidity?
AGAIN....You understand humidity is NOT a set number, most of us begin incubation 25-35% the first week and then adjust as needed per air cell growth/weight loss.

Can you get pics uploaded on BYC and understand that pics help us to help you?

a bit nervous I'm not out at the farm friend is keeping an eye on the hen make sure she don't try to kill the chicks when they hatch as it's her first time brooding, but she was one that took in chicks at 8 weeks old and raised them for 3 weeks so heres hoping. Our main flock is barely a year old

oh I will hope all goes well with you!!!

I'm in I have 35+ eggs hatching today. Don't know if they count. Also have 42 in the other incubator set to hatch in 14 days. And will be setting another full egg turner of eggs after this hatch today.

yes we did this HAL for the entire month eggs in the bator at any time and the MAL HAL with Mypetchicken will run the same!!

Still trying to hatch my Rosecomb's eggs. I've got 6 eggs in the incubator.

I had one egg hatch last night, one egg this morning. Now I have 3 pipped, wired that they are so far apart. Some have nothing.

I have 1.5 broodies lol one hen I gave her all 10 eggs to my main broody and only one egg to the other she likes to get off the nest and stay gone and lets another hen take over, so that nest has revolving hens, lol

candled my 24 eggs in my bator, 4 were infertile and one I didn't see a crack and it had a blood ring, still a good count in my books

one and a half!!!!! lol I thought you were going to say one lf and one banty and I was gonna ask what do 12 broody serama equal

My girl Jonah!! Hatched her on January 12 she survived no electric as a chick. When others died when we had that bad ice storm. She's so docile and loves me I kept her warm under candles tell we got a generator. Her mother was a green egg layer EE father was a barred rock. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite birds!
