"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

That's a relief! I think of power outages like it is a mother hen taking a little break.... As long as it doesn't last too long, then all is well. Many of my eggs have been through power outages and did just fine. Sometimes I put ziplock bags of hot water in the bator and that helps keep the temp up till the power is back.

Great emergency "hint."

@h2oratt How is your sick chick? My 6 mushy chicks are doing great so far. Their bellies have gotten a lot smaller over the day. They are all eating & drinking & active so I think at least some of them will make it. I am giving them vitamins & electrolytes in their water. It smells weird to me but they like it. The one I did the assisted hatch on is the weakest so I am not sure if he will make it, but like I said he is eating & drinking so maybe he will pull through also. Out of the 6 sex-linked eggs I got 5 boys and 1 girl. This is one of the healthy ones, he is a lavender cuckoo orpington.
Ahhh, look at that little puffball! :love

No I didn't mean dropped them on the ground. Sorry I can see now how you could think that. I meant dropped them in the incubator to hatch. All the eggs are fine. But thank you for your kind words. I would be devastated if I actually dropped them.

Oh thank goodness! I was wondering how a whole turner tray of eggs could get dropped, and more than once! Glad to here you will have plenty of chicks!

I went to bed early because I was exhausted and then woke up at 3am. This is all happening quickly, but #2 is OUT! #3 is pipped and # 1 is definitely internally pipped. No word from #4 yet.

Someone wants to say hello...

Thank you! This whole thing is pretty surreal. I can't really believe there is a big baby dinosaur bird in my incubator. I like to try to hatch all sorts of birds and it doesn't always work out. I think I had low expectations and am now a little shocked that they are really hatching. I might have to go back to bed for awhile and try to absorb this in the morning... late morning that is ;)

how exciting and interesting! I can only imagine big babies like that one. I'm still in chicken phase (the gateway hatching experience) but have started to consider ducks and turkeys.

So out of 11 total in lockdown... 5 golden necked D'Uccles out so far, 1 Lav cuckoo D'Anvers. The other was DIS when i added some water and took some shells out... Did an external pip, but never broke internal membrane

So only one of my "special" babies survived

On a side note, Monday the dozen silkies and Mille Fleur D'Uccles go into lockdown... Not going to tell my husband about the 30 eggs I just received from the Post Office on Thurs...
Hi, firedragon... long time no see! Hope all is well with you. Sorry about other special babies... but one is better than none! Congrats on all the ones that hatched!!!

The Thursday eggs are on a need/know basis, and you don't feel the need for him to know? What he doesn't know can't hurt you kind of thing... right? I completely understand.

My friend said she would need it just as an incubator to put her eggs in that weren't ready for lockdown (she had a staggered hatch) she has had it for almost 2 months!! I feel the need to hatch!
2 months without an incubator??? OMG... I almost went crazy not hearing the hum of my bator for 4 months, but at least it was in my office where I could look at the box and know it was ready at a moment's notice. Poor girl...

I think I would be the same and it's totally understandable!!

They are real though!! When you dont get your hopes up in the first place things are so much better, all the more amazing!! I can't wait to see what they are like all fluffed up.

Have a good sleep but try not to dream about them! :gig
