I'm with you and your mom, it's time. As much as I want a rooster, I wouldn't be keeping one like that around, in fact, I had one that I thought I was going to keep. I was bent/kneeling down to take care of my chicks in the nursery hutch. I just happened to look around behind me, and there was this rooster I was thinking of keeping, if..if, the collar worked. He had a look in his eye! And that boy came charging, backed off, started again, I hurried and reached for him, he ran off. I chased him around the run sweeping my foot at him. He actually got a bit brave again the next week, same look, same little charge. I got rid of him pretty quick. No chop block, but went to a large piece of land where he wouldn't bother anyone but the hens..hmmm, and maybe another rooster? Can't have a mean rooster here. I have grandchildren. Sorry you have to do this.

To be honest I have been testing this. It seems to be ok after day 13 but there are losses before that for some reason.

Is there a way to easily search the Buy/Sell/Trade forum? I would really like to search for eggs or chicks in my area. But there are so many to weed through.

Catching up, maybe someone has told you all of the places.

You can go to whatever breed of chicken you are looking for, in threads here. There may be someone close by.
You can go to your own state thread, that's what a lot of us do. We have what we call the chicken train. If someone is heading north and there are some chicks/eggs they can bring back they do..and works the other way too. North, to South.
There's the buy and trade thread. You may find someone close by.

So the aggressive rooster is soaking in brine of kosher salt and brown sugar. Tomorrow nights dinner. Sad but had to be done.

We have babies    5 eggs made it and 4 were hatched that I could see. Took most of the day to determine that the 3 CCL eggs hatched - had  to wait until we could see 3 little chipmunk heads  poking out from under the broody to be sure

I *might* have gone and picked up a couple of cute Paint Silkie chicks with loud spots yesterday. I actually lied about where I was going when my son asked. Apparently I was feeling very self conscious about it at the moment and I panicked

They are so cute though. They have some pink spots but with my other silkies, I bet they could make some pretty babies. None of my paints have loud spots and all my silkies are from one breeder so, of course, I really needed these two!
