"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

I candled my eggs last night for day 14 and I had 2 clears. Nothing going on inside. I think that the air cells look better except for the dark brown eggs. They seem to have lost a lot of moisture compared to the other eggs, should I do anything differently for them? (Day 14 eggs have two pencil ring marks on them)

I'm using this... 20 year old hand me down hovabator? Forced air incubator.

I had the temp holding really steady at first but since yesterday I had to turn the temp WAY down. Is this normal? Or just faulty / old equipment?
Sorry about the two clears. As far as the brown eggs losing humidity faster than the others, there's nothing you can do short of putting them in a separate incubator with higher RH. When you incubate many eggs, especially mixed breeds, you have to base RH on the average. Some will lose faster, some will lose slower... it's the nature of the beast. From what I can see in the pic, the air cells look plenty big for day 14, so if you want to increase RH for the next 4 days, I don't see a problem.

With the embryos reaching hatching age, their metabolism increases and they start creating their own bit of body heat. It shouldn't change that much, so equipment may be playing a role as well. As long as you keep it withing hatching range temps, all should be well. Best of luck with your hatch!!!

Selling them certainly made things a little easier on me! Thank you.

Hey Sally! It's healed up pretty good and I can completely talk normal.

I almost wish I had silkies under her, but I don't. I didn't get enough before she went broody, so she's sitting on mixes and Chanteclers. Wish I could have gotten some of my Marans mixes under her or my Buckeye, but I didn't get the chance. I'm leaving the bators alone for a while.

Hi Raz! Didn't know you were under the weather. Old folks talks.

Glad you are better!

Looks like we're joining in the Hatch-a-Long. One lonely egg that my Silkie pushed out of the nest. I guess the nest was too crowded with 3 broody hens on 1 egg. I hope this chick makes it since our last one was fully formed but never made any effort to get out of it's shell.

Welcome, and good luck. I'm setting a few silkies eggs this week. Whites.

Waiting for Sapphires and Brahmas!!

Tagging the legbar!

Gooserz is getting big!!!

I am glad you can talk normal!! ohhhhh well Chanteclers are good too! Chicks arent selling that great local for you?
They aren't. I JUST found out the other day that my feed store is still buying adult birds. But that was the day I sold the ones I needed to. That's ok, though. I have 2 people that want hens when they're grown and now I know I can take extras to the feed store again. I guess they noticed a drop in sales. I may or may not take my roosters to them later in the year. My dad has finally agreed to teach Blu and myself how to process the extras. Mom didn't want Saint in the freezer, so he went with my new friend that said she could handle him. I've gotten no complaints from her about him and she's raved about how well the hens are doing. She even bought the buffs a rooster.

Thanks Cynthia! Still a little down, but that's more my allergies than lingering depression.

Thanks for your help. I had 3 clears so far with this first batch. Unfortunately 2 of them were bielefelders which is what I really want to hatch, of course. It's hard to tell from the diagrams if the air cells were good or not. I'll up the humidity a bit. Lockdown is on Thursday. :)
Really, I'll be happy if any of them hatch!
