Hi!!! Missed you!!
Tonight's day 7 candling results for are:
Set # 1: 11 viable, 3 blood rings, 1 highly questionable (will give it more time), and 1 slightly questionable. A few have good veining, but can't see the embryo.
Set # 5: 11 viable, 2 blood rings, 1 clear, 2 highly questionable (will give it more time), and 1 slightly questionable. A few have good veining, but can't see the embryo.
I pulled the 5 blood rings and 1 clear, and put the questionable eggs back in the bators. There are 24 eggs cooking, and all will (most likely) stay in until next candling. I'm almost positive that the 3 highly questionable eggs won't make it, but I'll be extremely happy if I only lose those 3 from here on...![]()
@jnr005 sounds to me like the children need to fess up, just saying. from a mother of 5 lolI am completely flabbergasted. I counted all my eggs last night, numbered them, candled them, and wrote down notes on all of them. My silkies are only 6 days old so I wanted to check them again today. #66 is missing...as in not there!?!? I had 18 shipped and 1 from a friend. We dropped one on day 2 and tossed it, dropped one on day 4 and waxed it (#71)...so should have had 18 silkie eggs in the bator. Have only 17. I've looked on the floor, around the bator, the dog isn't acting guilty (plus everything was in place in the bator, lid on, other eggs fine). If my dog would have gotten to the bator they would have been massacred (German Shepard) I looked through the trash and threatened the kids I was going to look and they swore up and down they didn't touch them. (I have a 9 and 13 yr old). I'm completely at a loss as to what happened to it...
<<Ahem>> May I have your attention please? I have two new chicks! Noticed a little hole in the shell of one about 12:30 in the morning. Got all excited, double checked humidity, and finally went to sleep. Woke up at 4:45 to the sound of very demanding cheeping! Little Olive Egger named Yokel (for @LocalYokel just as I promised I would) and it's so doggone strong! Then later on in the morning I noticed a pip in another egg - and we have a little Cream Legbar! And that was another one that hatched fast....nothing at 7 am, pip at 8, and hatched sometime around 10.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
GREAT NEWS!!!! WELCOME OVER PETER!!!!!HELP my hens have come down with a contagious case of broodiness. 4 and counting. So I'm officially in on the April Hal. Approximately 40 eggs.

Quote: Sunny, blue sky, green grass and a few degrees warmer than yesterday.
but you sent windy here!!! lol she left now sent her north!
LOL crack me up!!! come on babies!!!!Reading about all the pips is making me super anxious for mine, and we are only on day 7! HA!
Can't wait to see pics of all the new chicks!
oh wow!!!! Got pics of your homemade bator? @hesklj2008 I hope you have more pips now!! if your running a bit behind, be sure you calibrated thermos and perhaps up a little bit for next hatch, or you may have run a tad too much humidity. Not sure if I am posting right but as we speak I am on day 22 of my first hatch in a homemade incubator-and we have our first pip and chirping this morning! I feel like an anxious mother.
That being said, these forums and this site in general have saved me-been so much help along the way
Oh my goodness...posts..I see a lot of posts! I can't keep up here.
I did have 4 babies hatch. Those bad air cell ones. Had to assist. When I had waited long enough, and found that the first two I checked were DIS..I started opening others. Only got 2 little ones. :/ But, I think, one is a girl. These little bantam cochins have ridiculous feathers on those feets!
Good Morning!!!I'm on my last 5 days of incubating my chicken eggs. I'm starting to get really anzy waiting for them!!! This is going to be a great weekend!!! Good Luck with all your hatches too!!!!!![]()

Ok, I'm swearing off candling. I made a horrible mistake last night. I thought an egg going into lockdown was dead, so I went to do an eggtopsy, only to find out it was still alive...
Ok maybe not swear off candling, but swear off tossing, unless there is a blood ring or its infertile. And only candle at day 14
i AM SO sorry, I think many of us have done this at one point or another, its part of the process or learning. your ok.![]()
Woke up to find this chick with a shell stuck to it's back. A little moist heat and Shazam! (Added a warm moist towel to the bator as I returned chickies for the fluff cycle. Water chambers in this bator are quite small.)

Last picture of my chicken I took. My broody hen and my finger. LOL! The new part of chicken house with make shift broody boxes to make her feel at home.
Here's the outside. Needs steps/porch, roof, trim, paint, laying boxes, pulley to open pop door. etc. Old section will get paint and new trim as well.
