"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

@Sally Sunshine I have five jars of water and two sponges in a tray. I can't use just jars because I don't have enough room. I tried the sponge in the crystal light thing but it didn't really help much.

I used a straw to pipe warm water to the sponge and gave every single egg a bath in the process. :rant If they survive me it'll be a miracle. Humidity is up to 71% though! Hygro calibrated and determined accurate.

GO BABIES!!

x2

The milk jugs holes need to not be big enough they can climb in, they can drown in there if its deep enough, they do NOT have momma to get the oil from to help them float.
so please use the jugs but be certain of those holes it should be as this... see size differences, you will go through several hole heights and sizes as they grow, see sizing the duckling.....

REFER TO THIS LINK FOR A GREAT ADULT WATERER! http://permaculturenews.org/2013/05/20/poo-free-self-filling-duck-waterer/

x2 others use the filters just be sure your getting humidity and air flow level temps

Oops! Taped it off for now, making a new one out of a juice jug when I get home. Thanks!

Quote: I pulled the legbar shells at hatch, the hatched first, then the brahma, then the serama lol so three times I pulled chicks and hatch is over, just didnt get final brooder pics!!
or do a count yet I am terrible!!! Lockdown more

Ok... I'm officially swamped with chickens. I just did a beak count... Or as best I could.

In my big pen I have 13 laying or POL bulk austra hens, 2 white leghorn hens and my last 5 month old blk austra rooster.
That's 16 there

In my small pen I just put out my 5 week old pullet bigger babies. 4 polish, 3 dominites, 5-6 EEs, 2 buff orphingtons and 5-6 production reds.

That's another 22....

Then the fun of counting the brooder...
At least 33 chicks. Many are Roos and will be relocated.

The pullets I know are 3 silkies, 2 full blood bantams, 1 frizzle Cochin and I was bad girl and got 2 silver grey dorkings this morning. The rest are mixed of undetermined sex.

That's around 73-74 birds. Help.

Just outside. First time.

Oh what is this stuff?!

Move over. Let me see

LMAO this pic needs to go for a caption in the captions thread!!!

Here's my favorite one!
oh how stinkin cute!!!!

The small jugs are for the first week, then the gallon jugs, why are they dumping them?  Do you keep them filled?

 of course!!

Ohh! Mine had just hit a week when I used the half gallon jug. It was full, and they dumped it right away. Apparently they thought it was something to attack. Again, if you didn't see my video yesterday, I have a duckling that attacked my drake.
:lau   Maybe you should!  You have no idea what I'm imagining here!!!

Chances are, you're imagining what actually happened.

I have 6 Silver Spangle Spitzhauben, 5 pullet and 1 roo, this morning. These arrived in time for another storm. They were thirsty, cold and small. Now they are warm, hydrated (I love electrolytes) and small.

I have a chick. In a chick bowl. Get it! Just add water and you have chicken soup!

I do have a question thought. One of the chicks seems to have a bad leg. It doesn't look like straddle leg to me. She has to kinda hop around to move and it sicks out behind her. What do you think this is? Should I watch it or is there a treatment? It is her back right leg that sicks out. Or it could be the left leg is just too weak or sticks in?

Note - My internet is intermittent and slow today. I will respond though. Thank you so much for any advise.
