"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

The little chick died. I think maybe it had the cord around its leg and the yolk came out? I'm not sure. The yolk had ruptured also.
Im so sorry!

I am sad, Prince has died........ I enjoyed his music a lot. I will name my next chick after him.
So did Chyna (the wrestler)

So I didn't have high hopes for this batch. I candled yesterday before putting them in lockdown, and they just didn't look right. Not full enough, and a lot of thick veins didn't seem like many were moving. Not like my previous hatches where they were full and dark, moving around a lot. I was taking a nap this morning and woke to a lot of cheeping. One hatched, 3 more pipped.

OMG! I opened the incubator to add more warm water and I hear peeping, one sultun egg has a hole! So maybe this second incubator will work. All the eggs seem to look darker inside. This is taking longer than the 21 days because the temp wasn't warm enough in the beginning. It took a few days to get the temp up to speed and I was paranoid about temperature spikes. Hoping most will hatch. This is so exciting for first timers and I could just sit and stare into the incubator for hours.

Was there a post about how to post pictures from iPhone? Mine won't let me. I thought I seen something about it awhile back
mine won't let me either (4S)

Ha ha ha. :tongue

If it were all up to me, and not logic, I'd have ALL bantams. :love Sadly, they are not good producers and there aint much of a market for bantam eggs. :hit

There is a big market for bantam hatching eggs! I think that because I have mostly bantams that I can have 4 or 5 times the number of big girls I could have and the roosters aren't so loud! Bantams are the best. :D

Chaos...my first 17 days of humidity ranged from 15-45% hygrometer calibrated....i just was dumb and didnt realize how important it was..i was afraid of drowning chicks. what is the best range for me to use. it was my fault i just didnt get the importance until lockdown.

My first hatch was that way as well. Had big swings in my humidity and had a terrible hatch. Typically you want to start out 30-35% RH, candle day 7 and adjust according to the air cells. Same for day 14.
