"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

Well, I'm ready to call it.... I got 9 Ameraucana and 1 Bielefelder boy. There is another Biele that is still in it's egg waiting to absorb all it's stuff and hopefully hatch. The other Biele eggs made it to lockdown and not much further. Happy/Sad day for me....

I am out. My incubator ran away yesterday and cooked the eggs, quail, OE's and SFH. I am going to take a break. I think I will save up money for a new incubator before I hatch again. I don't even have any tears, just numb. My washing machine decided to flood the kitchen too. Bad day for appliances. The only bright spot is that my Bantam Wyandotte girl started laying, a beautiful pale pink egg.

oh NO!!! did it ruin anything? the wash machine???? I am so sorry what a mess!!! sorry on the EGGies too poor things!

My,parents said I can't incubate anymore
sorry CH

Well, the eggs I bought from eBay arrived. No broken eggs! The incubator and homemade egg turner should be ready tonight!
AWESOME!!! good luck with a quick finish, get that thing up and running and calibrated!! good luck!!

Just in case anyone was following: Update on chick with leg issue (I tried to keep this short and sweet as this is an incubating thread not injury thread)
I treated as if she had straddle leg ... I taped her feet in shoes....I removed these the braced her leg.
I have been giving her vitamins and electrolytes in a dropper. She is eating and drinking hardily on her own though.
This morning her leg was slightly improved. So, we are continuing vitamins, electrolyte, and monitoring.

Also, I see A TON OF PEOPLE have their noses pressed the 'bators today watching hatchings. CONGRATS to all!!!! I love reading the updates, photos, and learning from your questions and experience.

ALL EMPTY??? and you have allll those georgeous eggies??? :th

Or you can just feed starter/grower or All Flock to the whole flock and keep oyster shell in a separate container for the layers....the chicks might nibble on some out of curiosity but won't get enough to hurt them, and the hens will take what they need.  I've done this for sometime now.  Hasn't affected chick health or adult laying and it's also fine for the roosters.

X2. I also feed my entire flock including my layers starter/ grower with oyster shell in separate little feeders.

It has begun!!!

The chicks are hatching! It started last night with one. We are now up to 9 hatched! One died just after hatching, but 8 chicks are alive and well. Three more are pipped in the hatcher!

Well they say no pain no gain... My hand and arm are all cut up but my 2 new babies are separated in the brooder and the bigger littles (5weeks old) are outside and the smaller bantams and silkies are not getting stepped on. I hate cutting hardware cloth and securing it. So sharp.
