"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

So 30 of 43 hatched so far. Today is day 21. Had 2 dead after pip...like perfectly formed but dead. The other 11 are just chillin there, but seem like they had developed. It's weird bc most of what hasn't hatched yet are the dark Moran and wellsummer eggs. I had 3 of each hatch out of 7 of each that went into lockdown. Do morans and wellsummer take longer??? (I noticed they have a thicker shell). Kinda bummed if these 11 don't hatch bc I am sure they are fully developed.

I hope the 11 hatch soon.

I hear peeps at EXACTLY 21 days and 0 hours after I set the eggs! That is pretty perfect, so here is hoping for a perfect hatch!
Silkies and Plymouth Rocks! :)
Wonderful! Good luck.

Day 18's candling showed 19 live embryos.

They're locked down in the refrigerbator-turned-hatcher as I type. Hoping to see some fuzzy butts in 2-3 days!!!

I want to see these hatch!

I have at least 5 ducklings out!

Congratulations!
WHOA! It was a busy weekend from what I have read and caught up on. There are cute, little baby chicks all over the place!!!!

UPDATE - Chick with Leg Injury
So, I continued vitamins. My little chickie continues to eat and drink normal. She is walking MUCH closer to normal now too. She does seem to have a buddy that she leans on periodically but she is not sitting on her knee, dragging her toes, laying crooked, or hobbling anymore. So, I am going to continue with the vitamins and monitoring. Of the 6 chicks she was the only one with an issue. I thought she was injured during shipment, there were ONLY 6 chicks in a box (no extras, not heat bubbles, nothing... and I thought they may have been tossed around a lot. But, as of now she is getting better!

UPDATE - Check Season
Since Feb 17th we have had 49 chicks. 14 hatched here and 35 were shipped day olds. So far I have had 48 of 49 thrive, grow, live and "make it". I didn't think much of this until someone today asked me if I was A Chicken Whisperer. I told them I was not and that I was simply a Crazy Chicken Lady.

UPDATE - Duck Incubation
So, there are 6 days to go on my Anconas (due 9pm Saturday 30th). I am ready. I know they aren't ready, but I am. I am more invested in this hatch, because I REALLY want these ducklings, and I am all wrapped up in my own head. So, in an effort to calm my crazy train I am doing simple things 2 times a day. 1. I smell checking. 2. I visually check... yep, still 11 white eggs. 3. I read the humidity.
And that is it. I have told myself no more candling. Leave them along. Just leave them alone!
I'm glad the injured legged chick is making progress. So you're THE Crazy Chicken Lady!

It's day 24 and one of the Gamefowl eggs still has veins but is not moving. I don't know what to think except false hope

Opinions, please?

Unless you need the bator right away, I'd give it a little more time.

I have one button quail. I sometimes feel cursed by humidity.

Only one, and the hatch is done?

Day 7 candle lost 9 eggs. eggtopsy shows 1 quit day5, 1 day 7+. 1 Isabelle clear, 2mixed clear, 1 sizzle scrambled.3 had blood rings no embryo developed enough to find. Hey all!! Hope everyone has had good hatches. I was out of town. Had to goto Maryland to help my cousin and his wife move. It's been terrible two days in the city. Got back to the farm yesterday. Let the 3 month olds out for a few hours before dark. And even let my farm helper off her leash. She's 6 month so I said it's time. Didn't chase any chickens at all. Barked at the goats some but that was it. Her training has worked. I still won't let her out with the chickens by her self yet but she's doing great none the less!!

Awesome. I'm glad your young helper is doing good. All days in the city are terrible. IMHO

Silly bird

Kind of a bummer, no feathered feets on these last two that hatched yesterday.

They're still pretty cute, though.
Awwwww. Maybe the next one you hatch will have feathered feet.

I see some rocking and rolling in the incubator but I cant get my humidity above 50% do you think that will be okay?
Congratulations! You want to get that humidity raised some. Damp sponge?

I have 6 silkis from TSC that I bring into my basement living quarters every night, it gets too cold for them. I think I am going to have trouble when the weather warms up at night about leaving them in the dog run. They wait for me at the gate after dark for me to pick them up and put them in a rubbermaid tote and bring them in the house. They are really snug in that tub! Does this mean I am spoiling them?! Last night I was later than usual and they were waiting at the door and a couple were trying to get in with a moma silki and her babies that I also have in a dog crate at my back door. Time to get son in law to build me another fenced in area for my silkis. Incubator on my table and saw a pip this morning and wondering if it will hatch before noon today, would love for my grand daughter to see it hatch before I take her to pre-school. My hatch rates are very poor but then that could be a good thing since I don't have any large areas ready for more chickens, a few here and there is about all I can manage anyways! Going to get a pair of Seramas from another member for grandson to take to our county fair and then I better slow down on the chicken population. Have a dozen eggs expected to hatch at the end of the month and set some Sultun and silki eggs last night for the May hatch. Now does that sound like I am slowing down?!
I have always liked birds and at one time hand fed a starling that fell out of a nest and would fly on my shoulder when I went outside. So now that I have found my happy place (with chickens) life seems to have less stress and a little more meaning.
No, doesn't sound like slowing down!

Five baby's 9 pips and one I'm waiting on to pip
