"Springing in the Chicks" 2016 April Hatch-a-Long Hosted by Mike & Sally

My hatch is officially over. 16 chicks in the end. I believe this has been my most positive hatches ever. Out of 16 chicks, 1 developed wry neck 2nd day after hatch but with vitamins is completely recovered. 3 of the last chicks had leg issues. Either slight splay leg or weakness or something but all have recovered (fingers crossed) to this point.

30 pages behind. Oops.

I finished my hatch about two weeks ago? 17 chicks hatched over a 4-5 day span and 18 quitters in various stages. No eggtopsies. Two slight assists on malpos. Not too bad for missing that whole week!

Niederrheiner: 2/4
Bielefelder: 1/4
Merlerault: 2/4
Isbar: 2/12
Mutt EEs: 10/11 (of course :rant)

Here's the latest pic of the babies! :love

Glad you are pleased with your hatch!

So far we have hatched 13, 2 died, 2 are guinea keets, the rest are all muts.

I've been trying to be patient while assisting my last eggs, which their mom let go cold, but I thought one of them had lost its veining and was suffocating. it bled really bad and I'm not sure if its going to make. The little guys name is Latte. I really hoping he can join his mother and siblings outside.

Patience is definitely a virtue when assisting. One thing I've learned is to only take small pieces of shell off, without breaking/tearing the membrane. Once I have an opening in the shell, swabbing a damp Q-tip on the membrane makes it turn transparent... and blood veins easy to see.

Hopefully the little guy didn't lose too much blood. Chicks are tough little critters. Just start it on electrolytes to give it a boost as soon as it goes into the brooder. Best of luck with him!!!
