Sprouting Wheat Video

I'm working on a video to show the technique I developed over the last 6 months of trial and error. The video is not finished yet but you can get the gist of what I'm doing better than me trying to describe it in words I think.

To help reduce mold and to add oxygen to the water while the trays soak. From suggestions from others and my research it seems to be much better than using bleach and safer to boot. I know there are a lot of copy cat videos on putube that use bleach but most are just copying someone else's video.

I'll jump in here with my observations and background on this subject. When I was in the Navy, in foreign ports, we used to get vegetables from third world countries that used brown (human) manure as fertilizer. We would wash the vegetables with a diluted bleach water to kill the germs and then rinse the vegetables. None of our sailors ever got sick from using a diluted bleach solution followed by a clean water rinse on those vegetables.

Last winter I grew barley fodder in bins and added maybe a capful of bleach to about 1 gallon of water. My setup is different from this OP, but many of the concepts are similar. If interested, you find my fodder article here My $10 Inexpensive DIY Fodder Tower with Dollar Tree Dish Bins. I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but I do report on what works for me.

As to mold growth, I am sure there are a number of factors that contribute. I have very little control over the temperature and humidity in my small home setup. Based on my experience, mold grows best in moist, damp, humid conditions. I live in northern Minnesota, and in the winter my inside house temp is about 64F with in house humidity as low as 20% when the outside temps drop to -20F. So, for many people, that would be a very cool and dry environment, which is probably why last winter I had very little mold growth issues. I used a capful of bleach in the soaking solution and also used maybe a capful of bleach in the daily rinsing solution if I started to notice any mold growth. OP makes an interesting case for using Hydrogen Peroxide instead of bleach and appears to have good results. That is helpful information to consider.

Good start on the video. Would be nice to watch when you add your voice overs to the finished video. Looks like great results there at the end - lovely fodder and root mat.

Love your system, brilliant using those containers, so much easier then jars and a great way to rinse the seeds which I think is the hardest part I never use bleach (rarely even have any) but did try acv in my latest batch, I like the idea of HP though.

I've also begun sprouting wheat for my birds, but was hesitant to use bleach for several reasons, the biggest being environmental. I love the idea of peroxide to prevent mold! Genius! Thank you!
