Sprouting

I use 1 qt. wide mouth mason jars with these:

I just got a six pack of those. Sprouting for the birds and for us. I just started some boss for them. I'm going to try some wheat, too. I've got minm beans and a mixture of clover, radish, alfalfa and broccoli for us. My inner gardener is feeling especially engaged this year.

My favorite sprout for kitchen use is alfalfa. Really dresses up a sandwich or a salad.

I always sprout lentils for the girls and boy. They are ok eating them dried, but really love them when sprouted. I can get fresh greens and weeds feom the garden most of the year - except for the height of summer and early fall (until the rains come). But I like giving them a bit extra protein that’s not as pricey as mealworms...

@lazy gardener , how long do you sprout your boss for? And barley? Are you going to keep using popcorn? Thanks for the advice!

I didn't get around to sprouting the popcorn that I grew. So, just worked on the barley and BOSS. The sprout time depends on the sprouting temp. I soak the seeds for about 8 hours, then drain and rinse 2 x/day for 3 - 5 days. I like to feed them out before they get very long. Preferably when the sprout part is 1/2 to 1" long.
