Copper crept up to the youngsters, still watching out for Acorn. Stepping (loudly) out of the undergrowth, he grinned at Slate and Kaede.
“Whatcha doing, kids?” He asked.
Not creepy at all.

Here he was, just the Tom she was hoping for!
"Oh, hey Copper," Kaede said, not scared, but rather amused, "what are "you" doing?" she asked, covering up his question.

Slate was canonically mute, hoping Kaede would do all of the talking. He stared at the ground.

“Thought you youngsters looked lost!” Copper bellowed, completely forgetting about the fact that he was supposed to be staying out of Acorn’s scrutiny. “I was just gonna generously offer my advice to all of y’all.” He continued, looking rather smug.
