spurs starting to grow at 8 weeks?

I have an 8 week old barred mutt with what looks like spur nubs. Do spurs start to grow this early? Does this mean it is definitely a cockerel?

Spur nubs don't mean a thing. Pullet chicks and cockerel chicks will both have spur buds.

Cockerels do not start getting their spurs til 8 months of age, some breeds take longer. As stated all chicks have those nub buds.
