Are spurs specific to roosters? If so, how old will the rooster be when they start getting spurs?

It depends on the breed. In general, only roosters get large spurs, but hens can have small to medium spurs. The spurs get bigger with age, and most chicks have them on their legs at hatch- there is a tiny lil bump on the inside.

The exception to the spur size on hens is in Orientals and in Games (that's a whole lot of breeds.... lol).

In these breeds the spurs can be the same size as a cocks.

Thanks for the response. Mine are 6 weeks old and I am trying to figure out how many, if any, roos I have.
