Some of you are seeing this same post from the other swap thread, but I bet some of you don't know about the other swap thread

Hey guys... I don't know if you've ever come across this thread before: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=421735

First of all, this foam is totally awesome, I make something similar here at home for my shipping eggs but I got a swap last week that were packed in fowlrus foam and it was pretty daggone awesome. But the reason I repost it here is that I learned something very important today after reading it myself. I actually had a "doh!" moment because it's total common sense! LOL!

"The eggs stand upright in shipping, so the air cell is at the top- this keeps it from forcing the membrane away from the side of the shell (air rises) as the egg will not bounce along on its side in shipping, which is often a problem. If eggs remain big-end-up, much damage from jarring can be avoided."

I can't believe I never thought about which end of the egg I put pointing up. I mean, just out of habit I'm sure I pack them in the foam with the fat end up because that's the way I store them in the egg trays and the end I write the date on. But from now on I'll really pay attention to "this end up" on the eggs I'm packing!

Just wanted to share.. Now back to your regularly scheduled program...

We've used a similar product from Southern Farm Hatchery and always been very happy with it. Except it holds the eggs the other way and fits exactly into the flat rate boxes one piece of foam with padding pieces for the top and bottom.

I got eggs in the foam and they were scrambled, I had nothing even try to develop. I would rather use a method that allows me to put extra eggs to up the chance of someone hatching something. Problem with the foam is you can't really get extras in the box.

Soggy Bottom ~ Have cochins from you hatching today!

So far two out, several with pips and both whites trying to work there way out.

Update 6/10 ~ ended up with 7 bouncing babies from 10 eggs shipped. What a great hatch!!

Hi, all! I'm reviving this thread. There's been a lot of chit chat on the swap thread lately.

I'm sorry to report that the MGB/Polish combo eggs from gamebirdsonly didn't hatch. Had two develop, but they didn't hatch. I have OEGBs from Soggy hatching today. I let a friend hatch them for me because I was away last week. I can't wait to see them!
The heat has really got to my birds. Egg production is way down and one of my BR bantams keeps laying in the run or under the roost!

I guess she doesn't want to sit in that hot nest box.
