Squatted then no more...

Today I was out in the backyard getting ready to grow some barley grass for my chickens. Then one of my easter eggers squatted down. And it was an 100% squat. When she got up I put my hand on her and she squatted two more times. But when I got out my phone to try to video tape it, she would not squat. And her comb is not red. She is already 6 months old, when will she lay?

That doesn't necessarily look like submissive squatting, that's just squatting in some nice cool dirt for a dirt bath.

She's so pretty! I have a couple of slackers that have squatted and not laid anything yet too. It's like the cliffhanger end of season episode and having to wait to see what happens.

Squatting doesn't necessarily equal eggs soon. It often does, but not always (and conversely, some pullets never squat beforehand).

One of my pullets recently squatted at 14 weeks, but I know she's nowhere near laying yet, so that's a submission squat vs the "I'm squatting for a roo" type squat.

Some time back, I had a pullet squatting at 3 weeks old! It was 5 months or so after that before she laid any eggs. I think she continued to squat regularly the entire time, although it's been long enough I don't recall for sure.
