Beautiful eggs

I've got about 2 dz saved now. I might set a day or two early so I'm sure to be ready for my next hatch at the nursing home.

Yeah, I might set on Saturday or Sunday. I prefer setting on the weekend, so I know I'll be home for most of the hatching, in case there are any problems. I hate being at work while the eggs are hatching. I already have 14 eggs, and my incubator will only hold 27.

I want to join!!! Ive got the prettiest green eggs. So if I understand correctly if I hatch out these that are covered by a Basque and bcm roos I might get some blue layers?

from the BCM yo can get olive or brown eggers, IDK what color Basque lay, but the eggs could be some shade of green or brown

That could be interesting! I would love some beautiful blue eggers, but more green is cool. What would I get if I got a wheaten americana rooster for my americana's that lay green eggs?

Basque lay tan to very light brown egg. I'm so excited to hatch some of my green eggs.

Here are my green eggies!



The ones up top are my blues, the lower ones are green/olive. I think the bottom right is a Welsummer. It was 12+ that I was supposed to get, and the + ended up being *6* extra!

Not a single one was broken or cracked. Haven't candled them as my girls seem to eat flash lights for fun. Hopefully it will magically appear when I clean their bedrooms. They are in my garage resting at about 50 degrees/70% humidity. I wet the inside of the lid, closed it, and covered the top with foil to keep the humidity up. Otherwise it was about 20-30% humidity. So excited!

There was some study done on keeping eggs viable while storing them. Depending on how long you want to keep them, you should store them at such and such temperature and humidity. Then it gave reduction in viability after however many days. Trying to follow the recommendations since I'm not going to set until Saturday. Some of those eggs are already a week old, so they will be about ten days old by the time they go in the incubator. Not bad, but not great, either. I can track down the study and post the link if anyone is curious.

It was bugging me that I couldnt remember where I read it so I tracked it down. It was in Sally Sunshine's Hatching 101 article.

The main reason I was worried about low humidity was I didn't want this batch of eggs to lose too much weight before they get in the incubator. I am setting them with fresher eggs which won't have lost any weight. If my goal is 13% weight loss, it would be difficult for the older eggs to not exceed the 13% if they have already lost a percentage point or two before they are even set. That is assuming of course that I manage the humidity in the incubator to the benefit of my fresher eggs, which I am as they are the more valuable eggs out of those that I am settling. Hopefully this makes sense.

...and yes, I probably am over thinking this whole thing.

I am in! Some of my girls have taken a break from laying though!

I have broken down and I'm picking up eggs on Saturday. This is my first hatch so hopefully it goes well!
