St. Patty's Day Green Egg Hatchalong, Set 2/25

Well, I did it, I started saving eggs. I also told my husband and he seemed ok with the whole hatching thing. I think I'm going to order an ecoglow brooder for when the chicks are in the house.

Now I just need to figure out where I can brood them after I move them out of the house. And, the new coop needs to be finished soon.

I lost multiple hens to a hawk around this time last year, and it is so sad. Glad you get to join the hatch though!

Well, it was dark when I got home, and dark when I left this Am, so no pictures yet, but 2 of them laid yesterday. They arent olive, but a nice green color, almost avocodo-ish.

Beatiful Birds!

I have the Ecoglow 20, I have 11 birds in that brooder (6 of which are bantams). It is just working for this amount of birds, I am going to switch back to the big red light bulb for the group I have in the bator now.

I have the Ecoglow 20, I have 11 birds in that brooder (6 of which are bantams). It is just working for this amount of birds, I am going to switch back to the big red light bulb for the group I have in the bator now.

I've debated and debated on which ecoglow to get and I think I'll get the Ecoglow 20. My incubator holds 42 eggs but the chicks will only be in the house for a short time, less than a week. I think the 20 would work well for a week or so. I have heat lights for smaller groups and a big old brooder that will do 100 chicks for larger groups. I just can see using a heat lamp in the house, to much of a fire hazard with my young kids.

Has anyone ever tried to brood using a Sweeter Heater? I've been looking at them, but I think I will be cheap and just get a red bulb.

Ive only ever used a red bulb or a hen.
