St. Patty's Day Green Egg Hatchalong, Set 2/25

You guys make me want to go outside and check underneath my broody, but I know the most I'll find are some wiggly eggs and an upset mama!

Thanks! You too. Somehow even though I've been counting down the days I'm still not ready. Need to run to the feed store on my lunch break and get shavings and a water dish. Also need to make a hardware cloth lid for the brooder so my cat can't have any chickie snacks. Ahhh! Why did I keep thinking I still had plenty of time? :p

It seems to take Forever!! Then...they're upon us! But not me, got not a sound coming from that bator. They're not due until Sunday, so no stressing yet!

Took my Olive Eggers from the last hatch to the auction tonight. I hope they did well.

my 2 EE rooster brought $8.75 each in a group of 4 roosters, the other group of 4 bought 6.75
But they take 30% comission here in California. Sure a lot quieter this week in the mornings.

Bedtime tally = 3-Marans, 1-EE, 1-Barnevelder

Another Marans looks like it pipped through a blood vessel. :(

The chicks in the brooder are worrying me. I have a heat lamp on a dimmer. I can't seem to get it to stay around 95. It either bounces around in the low 90s, or the low 100s. Covered half of it with a towel and bumped it up. Now some of the chicks are further away from the heat, but the one who was doing the distressed peep is right under it. So, hopefully they are happy for the night.

My two kids (3 & 6 years) were so excited about the chicks hatching that we had to move the incubator to our bedroom closet. I had visions of them getting up in the middle of the night and leaning on it and breaking the styrofoam lid. Hopefully if they sneak in we will hear them.

This morning I have 9 EE chicks and several pips. I moved 8 of the chicks to the brooder. It was so crowded in the bator I couldn't tell what was going on!

I know they don't recommend setting pullet eggs, but I couldn't resist setting my blue Ameraucana's very first egg. The tiny blue egg hatched a very tiny blue chick. So cute!

I think your heat lamp temps are ok. It is when the heat lamp goes up to the 120 range that you have chicks dieing. I bought a ecoglow this year to use in the house and I love it. I have an old, very old brooder that uses.... well here is my old brooder that I use out in the chicken barn.

My kids love the chicks too. They are in there now checking out the chicks. :) picks a little later.

What is an internal Pip and what does it look like?

An internal pip is when the chick breaks through the membrane that separates the aircell from the chick in the egg. It looks like a shadow moving around in the air cell.

Have seven chicks in the bator, and four in the brooder. Waiting until my kids wake up before I move them. Looks like several of my EE hatched! 11/40 so far!
