Standard Bronze Turkeys - Hatching! w00t!

I tried to handle my BBB poults a lot - and they are still scared stiff of me handling them. If I catch them, they scream until I let them go. I guess that way I won't be too attached to them when it comes time for them to be dinner though!

Our first batch of Bourbon Red and Black Spanish poults began hatching this past weekend. They are quite pleasurable to watch and listen too.

Well except during the night as they are in the Living Room at the moment.

Congratulations!! I wanted some turkeys had 15 eggs in the bator but none were fertile they were free eggs to test for a freind, but still heart breaking. I have 6 eggs in now (since Sunday) so I hope these are better, but they are from the same place so they probably arn't.

Yes, they will and they will run fast to you if they think you have anything that resembles food.

So as long as I have a snack dish at all times they will be my best friends? lol

I'm sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have one more question since I know nothing of turkeys and wasn't planning to have any, but how long does it take to tell males from females?

Look at the snood bump, the legs, the toms will be bigger. When the BR's get older look at the feathers on the chest area. The hens will have a faint white lacing and the toms will have black.

You're fine, Sara. I'll be talking turkey here as long as this set is hatching. LOL
