Standard of Perfection

Krish there is a 1910 Version of the SOP on Google. Earlier in this string CGMCCARY was kind enough to provide the link. I posted it below again. While this is the 1910, it is very useful to read as the basic information is intact though some breeds won't be listed that were entered into the APA at later dates. But the core information is still sound.

If you keep looking eventually you'll find an SOP at a reasonable price. I'm familiar with the offerings on Ebay and they are just way too much for the most part. I am not paying $40 or more for a 70 year old book when the new version is $60. The APA jealously guards it's SOP as a fundraiser, which is why it's so darned hard to find the SOP just for your breed sometimes. But having one and reading it will sure help you out.

Just checked abebooks.com & there are 17 pages of listings for Standards. Some are reasonably priced, some not so much but there are lots of them available.

This is my first post ever to an online forum, but I have lurked/joined many because there is often useful nuggets among all the junk, but a person really has to look. I was loving what I was reading of yours and hope you continue on. The beauty of a forum is if people don't want to read the posts or follow the threads they don't have to. I'd rather read one post of yours than dig through the thousands of "oh how cute your chicken made poo-poo" stuff. Please keep posting.

yep, that's where I got my 1993 version. I had forgotten where until you mentioned the name here. Old age disease I guess.

Here is a link to many standard of perfections available for you to read on line. They are basically the same verb age as the latter issues sold today. One standard that is the best buy of standards is sold by the American Poultry Association and many poultry supply sites and that is the Black and White issue of the standard. I prefer looking at the black and white pictures as they were done by A O Schilling. Also I am short on time Matt here are the books on Wyandotte’s for you to look at and there was a Standard book made for Plymouth Rocks and Wyandotte’s. Maybe you can find it in all these books. These where special standards written by the leaders of the APA years ago and also wrote how to breed for some of the colors. You can take many of these chapters and use them to day to breed for color. You all ask me if there are any old articles or books out there on the subject well here they are. This should keep you busy for a while. Remember to read the pages that Walt talked about first before looking and going crazy over the pictures.
The black and white standard is cheap about $25. I think bob

Thank you again Bob your input is extremely valuable to us all!

I am ever amazed at the resources at one's fingertips on the internet if you just know where to look. I have spent a lifetime accumulating these books, pamphlets and literature about Aves (and have spend more than I care to remember) and now it accessable to everyone with access to a computer. Just wonderful!
