Started the new coop build

Are you adding an auto door or not? If not, probably no reason it can't go in the human door. Otherwise you'll likely need the wall space to mount the motor and such.
No auto door, I made a manual door in the current coop and only used it when I moved the coop to the new place ( locked the girls in and done ) so I dont see a reason to use the auto door as Ive been 4 years with the coop open 24/7 , Hoping to have them moved into the new coop soon

siding done, nesting boxes done... need to get mulch installed then move the girls over. Ill build the door this fall.

Got the top of the run covered with wire, will eventually cover with tin later to keep it dry mostly. Got the roosting bar in and its ready to move the girls in.... just need to move the water and feeder over..... probly do it in the next day or so, by this weekend I hope.

My issue is going to be figuring out how to get the littles out? The elders will come to me, the littles are skittish still but warming up.The old run is only 36" high and Im not crawling around to get them LOL

I do all my handling off the roost at night.

good idea, I can close the hatch and open the access door and snag em.... Im just wondering if it will stress them going to a new environment in the dark? Or lock them in and get them in the morning

When I moved my birds to Neuchickenstein I moved them out of 3 small coops after it was fully dark -- carrying them down and settling them on the perches of the new coops.

It was a bit of a production number (4 people with multiple pet carriers, etc.), but I stayed in the coop with a dim, red headlamp on until I was sure they were settled.

My general philosophy is that chickens are tough, adaptable animals who can adjust reasonably well to different situations as long as I provide the basics and act calmly myself so that they don't pick up on external stress. :)

Cool, they are only moving about 25 feet from the exisying coop, they been watching me build their new place from the start.... Probly wondering what it is and soon to find out LOL Im not going to run back n forth, probly 2 or 3 trips as I still have the tub with wire lid I used for the brooder. Can probly get all the littles in there at once, and maybe 3 big birds at a time . Im waiting to get the bedding for nesting boxes before I move them and will get the mulch for the ground cover later.... Im excited, theyre exited, were all excited LOL

Coop is done, secured. Water moved, filled and plumbed, Bedding in nesting boxes and floor, feed moved in and filled, Chased chicks, used a stick with a noose to cath the yunguns, the older birds came to me naturally. But the littles were a fight for sure.

Old coop is going to the outlaws since I am getting an old bobcat from them that will greatly help around the property.

Just went out to check on them, they are all still outside and its almost dark now 848pm.... so I got all the big ones on the perch and they stayed and one I placed in the nesting box so they know. They can lead the juviniles here on out, Im not chasing them anymore tonight.
