Hi - we're not sure what's causing it. The vet couldn't tell either but suspected an underlying issue, possibly cancer, or simply age-related dysfunction. We don't know how old ChronoHen is but I'd guess maybe around 5. She was dumped at the local cemetery along with her flockmates, and was very skinny and had a bad case of leg mites when we picked her up, so her living conditions before we got her were likely not very healthy.
Our chickens do have access to grit, both a container with store-bought grit in their pen and plenty of natural grit when they free-range outside their pen daily.
