Starting a hatch the week of Oct 29th! Who's with me?

Unfortunately you just have to wait and see. I struggled with humidity in a home made bator my first hatches and was not happy with it so I bought a Genesis Hova Bator this time and it is holding very steady. I only have the 2 eggs as the ones I actually ordered were all infertile. The one that hatched last night is doing well, fluffing up. The other one has its head and neck out and is peeping but I have to leave for jury duty in a few minutes! It is going to drive me nuts wondering all day if it made it the rest the way out ok. Have to think it will if it is meant to though. Hang in there.

What beautiful babies!!!! Congrats!!!!

10 Day candling update! I candled the eggs last night and officially took 8 of the 26 out of the bator. We concluded these were either non-developers OR very early quitters (no growth since day 4 candling). I kept one questionable one in the incubator, although I think I may have seen a blood ring. I'm just not sure enough and couldn't get a good enough pic to post here. I'll candle again in a couple days to check it out and I guess I'll decide then. I did open the ones we took out of the bator and all but one looked like a normal "breakfast" egg. Big yolk but nothing looked or smelled unusual. The only one that looked different had a white film on the yolk of the egg. I had labelled it as a day 4 quitter. I googled some pics of early quitter eggs and I think the white film is what happens in the very early stage of development. But I should've seen more since it's day 10 so I know this egg was a goner.

So, on to the good news! The remaining eggs are growing nicely. It was hard to see much detail in the darker eggs but you could see some veins in them. And they all had bigger "dark blobs". I could see clear air sacks in all the eggs and veins in all the lighter colored eggs. The lighter colored eggs were very fun to candle as we could see the most. Veins, air sacks and even embryos!!! And we even got lucky enough to be able to see movement in some of the eggs!!! It was VERY eggciting!!! I'm actually getting hopeful that we're doing something right and will end up getting some chicks out of this whole process!

Coops.... how are your 2 little babies doing?

I can't believe it's been 5 weeks already!!! Yes! We hatched out 9 little chicks. I had to go in and intervene with one and, luckily, saved her. They're all getting super big and getting their big girl feathers.

How are your 2 "babies" doing? I posted some pictures in another thread a couple weeks ago when they were all fluffy butts.

Very cute! I looked at the pictures. I have been offline for a while as I moved over new years. Ughh! That was a chore. The chickens are settled in to their new coop and run. Need to work on side yard fence so they can start getting out to free range again. The 2 I hatched are doing good- though one started crowing at 2.5 months old! Neighbors here don't seem to mind and he is pretty quiet so far so hoping to hold onto him at least until his sister is old enough to go in with the other hens. Glad your hatch went well!
