will be posting pictures soon chicks come tomorrow, I ordered 3 Easter egger bantams/ 3 mottled Cochins bantams I’ll post pictures of my coop tomorrow (90% done) i live in the city and would like any advice i can get, they will have a 10ft by 4 foot run and will be allowed to free roam under a 40 wide by 20 deep deck while supervised (it’s all dirt under there ) and putting hardware cloth all around it except for an entrance im making to let them in. I also have one nest box i May install another but read up to 7 bantams you only need one. any suggestions tips tricks I’d really appreciate it. Thank you ! Also i live in Staten Island, NY getting these chicks in the winter keeping them in the basement until they have some feathers to put them in the detached garage.

Welcome to the BYC Family!! Getting new members is always exciting!! Yes, please post pictures.

Keep in mind that chickens can become broody and under your porch is a place they will choose to make their nest to hatch chicks or just to make a nest. You will want to be able to access this area to remove the pullet/hen and the eggs. Chickens can become broody with or without a rooster around.

good to know, i was going to treat it as a “play spot” not all the time since the deck is raised abut 3.5 feet off the ground tons of bugs under there, but they will mostly be in the run/ open grass area under super vision and thank you for the welcome!

This is my coop still need to finish it debating on leaving that back triangle above nest box open for vent or is that too much? It gets cold here in New York so don’t want to freeze them out it’s 4x4 and then building them a 10x4 run when the coop moves to the grass area i have

wow that’s intense that’s some coop! haha i have a hinge door I’m putting on the main front vent the back wall (where the egg box is ) will be right next to a fence so not much wind will go in there was thinking of a always open small circular vent and at least i can close the front one
