Starving chicken: a true mystery

I just read this whole thread, hoping that she would make it in the end. But she passed peacefully, and I am very happy about this :hugs

I have lost many loved chickens, and it never gets easier. But you did all that you could for your girl, and my deepest sympathy is with you and yours :hugs

The Faverolles bare belly could also be just from standard rubbing on the roost or when laying around. They are a heavier breed aren't they?
Yes, they are a heavier, very fluffy breed! I don’t think it’s broodiness as she lays her eggs and gets out of the box. But, it does take her a good bit to get the job done.

I am so sorry.

I am glad you are getting a necropsy. I too think Marek's is a possibility, it can cause wasting like this. So can Gout. Gout can be diagnosed through an X ray but Mareks cannot. I hope you can get answers, I know what you are going through. I had a group of youngsters go through wasting like this as well. We never figured out what the root of it was. But one after another they got thinner and thinner. Gout was found in one. All of the affected eventually died or were put to sleep.
