Staying in the coop WHY ???

My girls will go out in the morning for a short time then half of them return to the coop some on the roost the others on the floor There run is 100x50 divded into two 50x50 Also eating alot of food should I lock them out? raise food to stop all there eating? I feel they have bugs and plenty of greens to eat They do like the fire ant's Any thoughts thank you all

I pretty much let my ladies do what they want, I let them free range when I am in the yard and closeby, they return to the coop usually before dark

Do they have an area where they can get water and shade outside? Ours will stay outside if they have shade available and fresh water. They'll forage a little, then take a shade break, more foraging, drink of water, stop in the shade, etc.
