SteamPunk????????

Steampunk costuming is a lot of fun....and very addictive!

I apologize for the number of pictures, but I pretty much forgot I had as many as I did.....
This is the outfit the wife wore to Dragon Con last year...her Airship Pirate Queen outfit. We made everything she's wearing save for the boots and socks. We did make chaps for the boots, though.

Turns out she looked better in the hat than I did.

And, of course, we had to goof around for the camera a bit....

I'm glad to hear that....we had fun making them and wearing them....and we are both kinda goofy when it comes to photos.
She's on the boards here....she might drop by to see what I've done. I will pass on the thank you, though!

Maybe she can even make something for you to wear.... tee hee hee

She wanted to go shopping for stuff to use. I convinced her she should clean her room first and see what supplies were already there

And yes, I have no doubt that I will end up wearing some costumes myself at some point. But I find SteamPunk much more acceptable for me than some of the Manga things she was into! So SteamPunk mother-daughter collaboration is definitely on the calender for this summer. I've been looking at a lot of cool SteamPunk style jewelry for ages

St-Hubert, you and your wife made AWESOME costumes!! Thanks for sharing all the photos!!

Thank you both!

Her Ladyship does indeed like tea with a wee bit of a kick.

A good place to look for simple costume bits is a local Salvation Army store or Goodwill. They generally have things that can be easily modified for a Steam look. There are also patterns available from the likes of Simplicity (my frock coat is a modified version of that pattern) and others....look for the "Historical" patterns. Stick to Victorian and Edwardian styles. The simplest look is dress pants, a white dress shirt, and a vest. The important part is the goggles, and those can be found all over the place or made pretty easily. Welder's goggles are easy to come by, and there are patterns out there to make your own.
This 'genre' has an open interpretation, so there really is no firm "THIS IS STEAMPUNK" look....as I have found out. Do a Google Image search of Steampunk and you'll see what I mean.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread, but I am enamoured of Steampunk and enjoy showing off my interpretation of it to others. The more folk that get interested, the better!

so.. after you get all dressed up...where do you go? are there events etc?

Do love the guys hair in the OP's post...

its so weird to see this popular now..i remember when my husband and his nerdy friends were into this back in high school, in the early 90s. i use to tease them relentlessly over it too and now its all mainstream!
