He was a bit shy at first:

He adjust his feathers:

And manages to peer at his surroundings:

And gains enough courage to step out:

He helps a hen with a bit of food:

He is immediately challenged by Little Sister and her second in command:

He bows in submission:

The second in command makes her position very clear. Check out Steele's expression. He's been henpecked before.

After a moment of apology he steps out:

He watches the girls pick through the hay:

Very gently he picks at a head of lettuce:

He watches the sky for danger:

Little Sister gives him a quick preen. Observe her strong eye contact as he covers his eye with his third eyelid.

Slowly and gently he directs her attention toward food.

He avoids confrontation by freezing in place:

He eventually manages to move among the flock unchallenged:

He poses for a few more shots:

Real Deal Steele, truly a gentle giant.

He's an awesome rooster. This evening he couldn't figure out how the girls used the ramp and was terrified of the pop door so I found him sitting on a block out in the pen. I gently scooped him in my arms and helped him navigate the ramp. The pop door rattled his feathers but I gently insisted he go inside. Once inside I turned on the light so he could see. He saw the ramp and walked up when I nudged him. He was so surprised to see the hens lined up on the roost. He talked in his low voice and settled for the night next to a hen.

Tomorrow I'll see if he can figure out how to get out! Bless his heart.

He seems like such a humble, mellow fellow. I hope he'll be as good as Stan the Man.

He's so awesome! He's almost like Stan! Not quite, but almost! I wonder if he will be like good ol Stan.
