Do you think my splash Isbar is molting?

That bird is in its own personal hell just like my Panda. Panda has not one ounce of meat on her keel, blew all her feathers at once. She's having to live in Zane's cage because she won't eat, just hides from other birds. Hope I don't lose her to this molt. She's 5 1/2 and Zane's only ever progeny.

That or she was in a bomb blast !

Thankfully none of mine are going through like that.

Winter is close by here, snow patches some mornings, nights in the 20s and days in the high 30s. Tis the season,

Mine in the outside brooder have a heat lamp in the box and the outer wire sides have double plastic on it so they are snug. The four fall hatches are in the basement, 2 roosters and 2 pullets from eggs from Other Mary, one of the pullets has a crest ! Too early for me to tell on the combs.

Gosi my rooster from Mary is both Rose Comb and Crested so the chicks next year will carry it even if they dont show both. Next trait to add is the feather legged one. And I will be trying to keep the biggest pullets to add size and hope for a larger RC Crested Rooster. Our American bred Icelandics can get bigger now, they dont need to be smaller to survive our winters, in fact now bigger is a plus survival trait. There is enough feed for size here. Gosi has caught up with Grimma and the others in size, and still giving me a big welcome when I open the pen door, the first rooster I have ever had that enjoyed being held. And getting more beautiful by the day !

Just a bit. She does look like she exploded.

My Cream Legbar from Mary and BR from Kathy have both lost a lot of weight in their hard molts this year. They are about 1/2 grown in now. I hope you don't lose Panda.

I've been going through the same in my head. The 2nd one is easier, but I do have bacon in the fridge I need to use up. So I probably will do the first one.

We had a whole hog (and getting another soon) and I'm tired of the same old, same old pork roast or pulled pork. I wanted to try something different.
