Brrrrrr!

The weather seems terrible-- I cannot imagine -25 degrees .
It's in the 70s here and too dry.

Be very careful about wild and hungry pit bulls. If their hunting instinct turns on, they can kill humans as prey.
I would not walk without a clobber type cane and a break stick (to pry open those locking jaws) - seriously.
Pit bulls are the greatest dogs depending on their owners.
By themselves I look at them as a potential hazard.

Yes exactly. I know the sweetest pittys. But I was surrounded by a pack of wild ones once and it was terrifing.

We were supposed to be on vacation back east in that weather this week. I'm getting glad mario boss asked him to stay.
Poor guy has been working an extra 20-30 hrs a week since october. At least they are paying him.
It is so dry here the preditors are going nuts. We had what I think must have been a racoon attack on new years while we were gone. It unraveled the chain link to get in the cage. Since I was away I was relying On that for safety and it plucked a breese off the pen. I'm cable tieing all the bottoms today :(

For those of you who cook we got a sous vide and a pressure cooker for house christmas gifts. We are going to work our way through modernist cooking! Today is flat iron steaks they gave to cook for 4-14 hrs.

Go Stella! My only bantam gets out every day but since a coyote got my big rooster he thinks he's king of the Big Chick flock! if he only knew how funny he looks chasin' those big chicks! They so totally ignore him! Even when he tries to strut and put on his best show for them!

Sous vide! Wow.

Baked my first Sourdough loaf in the Cloche, it was so delicious! The texture was not dense but not as airy as sourdough usually is, I think because I substituted 1/3 white whole wheat for regular flour - but I refuse to eat bread that is not at least partially whole grain, and the texture was not unpleasant. The starter is merrily proliferating in the only room of my house that gets above 64 degrees, I could probably bake every day with it if I had the time (or needed that much bread!).

A respite in temps here today, up to 27, then tomorrow and the next few days back down into the 0 range again - keep your chins up folks, only a few months until spring, and the new chickie season!

That's a lovely flock, and a great picture. Really enjoy seeing green right now.

I ran that Swedish site through Google Translate, this is what it popped up with:

A unique strain of bird found in Bjurholm . The chickens have lived in isolation on a farm for over 120 years , and is the northernmost native breed chickens found in Sweden .
On a farm in the municipality of Bjurholm have a bit of a random unique landrace chickens discovered. It was Jonas Nordlund from Back Fors farm a few miles from Bjurholm who found the chickens in an elderly lady when he was out looking for one hour barn.
Do not mix
- Hens have lived there for generations . Hens without other interference after 120 years is highly interesting , he says , who had to buy a few hens of the elderly lady .
The hens now called Bjurholm Hen has attracted attention among " cackle friends" throughout the country. The live gene bank as Jonas Nordlund has responsibility to contribute to more poultry farms.
- Those who are interested in native breed hens are welcome to get in touch. We are sure that they will not be mixed up with other hens to preserve the breed.
Withstands cold
A long-term adaptation to cold climates noticeable on the springs and biddunet . Egg production is not so great.
- It feels great to have these hens , a month ago we got chickens , says Jonas Nordlund, who has been in contact with Landrace Club .
During the year, will also SLU take samples from the chickens outside Bjurholm for further genintresse .

I'm Irish so Green is my favorite color! My twins love feeding our birds and they even come running when the girls call them! It's really funny to see them all "waddle" running. I'll have to do a little video of it so everyone can get a good chuckle out of it..... Thanks so much! Susie Q
