Stella's Social Club

Well I have a tractor. And barking dogs. And crowing roosters. I am sure my neighbors would hate me if they did not also have those things, plus noisy kids with dirt bikes and 4-wheelers. Somehow we all get along without angst. It helps that my house is surrounded by woods.

Hopefully they don't mind the bees.

Funny when I read that post I thought it meant Chicken tractor

Plenty of tractors here, barking dogs, and a few roosters (other than mine). Sometimes we get the chain reaction dog barking. My dogs hear a dog barking in the distance, so they start barking, which leads to the dog behind us barking. I wonder how far it continues.

I don't mind dogs barking during the day or even an alert watchdog at night, but ceaseless barking all night long from a dog that is of a size that I know ought to be indoors gets tiresome. My dogs were inside at night, every night, but they were short coated/slick coated and very intolerant of cold. Of course, if you live away from most neighbors or have a livestock guardian dog, most of which do tend to bark as part of their deterrent, it's a bit different. Anyone who lives in the country gets used to the noises of it.

The problem is that most of the barking dogs here are not even technically owned by the neighbors. They are strays who just get fed by various people, who tend to call that "ownership".

After the longest hiatus from dog ownership we've had since getting our first dog when we lived in base housing (though I had AKC Dobes and Tom's family had various dogs when we were kids), Tom fell in love with a 9 week old AKC black lab pup a guy was trying to sell in our grocery store parking lot, a pretty little girl. Then, he thought of the vet bills we can't really afford and how a puppy purchase was not the best impulse buy right now since we really are not ready for a dog, may never be again. We walked away when an older couple came to admire the puppy. We miss Kes a lot. She's been gone a year and a half now, hard to believe.

Maybe the ladies here will tell me what I may have done wrong, and the guys will learn something or get a laugh.

I got to go shopping with my wife today. When we were at Walmart we walked past the electronics department, I stopped backed up and told my wife I wanted to show her something. We went down the pc aisle, I showed her a laptop and told her I almost bought you this one for Valentines Day. Apparently that was wrong. So next we are going past the sporting goods, she points to a tackle box and tells me she almost got me that for Valentines Day. Thankfully a few more aisles and there was an exercise ball, I told her I almost got you that and an anger management book. Oh, we will be laughing about this for awhile.

Haha I think this is one of those cases where we tend to buy for others what we want for ourselves??? Some people are better at getting out of that mindset than others. Most wives do NOT want electronics for gifts unless they are getting to pick them out. Hubby got me a tablet for Christmas. Nice idea but it's more *his* idea of a good gift to receive than mine.

I would much rather have books or something craft/sewing... now that being said for my birthday last year he had ME pick out the camera I wanted. I was THRILLED about that.

I see your point, but this is certainly a case where the new laptop would have been the correct gift to give her.

Hehe that's what I've been sharing from since about June! It's been fantastic, got it on overstock.com. Here are some photos from recent weeks. I'm not very good with it yet but it's coming along.

Double laced barnevelders. The lighting is pretty harsh in this shot I know. Can't do much about it when THIS is the time I have to do pictures and there is no cloud cover to be had...

Ameraucana rooster

Cream Legbars

Isbar eggs- playing with closer shots indoors. Catching true egg color is so tricky!!! I have finally overcome my chick death problem from last year by the way. It was a internal yolk sac infection (e coli) being passed from the hens, vet said it is a strain that you do not normally find environmentally. As my Isbars only come from two sources, Mary @The Sheriff being one of them I know where my e coli infection traces back to and will never order anything from him again (just in case that sounds wrong- I know it did not come from Mary).

This is Monstro my jubilee orp boy. He's under a year old still and weighed in this weekend at 7.8 lbs!!

This next one is just a cell phone shot but to give you a better idea of his size- this is my 16 year old sister holding him.

Cream Brabantars- these were an impulse buy when I caved and let hubby stay at the auction by himself... <sigh> now I have another pen to build.... I need to bribe someone to hold his hand down next time...

Thank you for the pictures!

Now of course I have to add some breeds to my want list!
