Stella's Social Club

I haven't started my container garden yet..... I still have juvenile chickens growing out in the fenced garden area. Sold four dozen eggs to customers at The Pub today! Two of 'em to folks who specifically asked if I had any with me, and the other two to other customers who witnessed those sales. Pretty stoked about that. On the sad side of things (chickens first), my bantam EE, Angel, has lost her three chicks. Two were Easter Hatch chicks from purchased eggs. I haven't found any bodies, but she had JUST started taking them out into the yard in the past two days. (The coop is 17 by 22, so there is plenty of room for a mama hen to raise young chicks inside it.) She has been VERY interested in one of Sparkle's four chicks which routinely gets left behind lollygagging when Sparkle shows them the world. I have picked it up at least three times a day to return it to Sparkle. It gets out of the fenced garden and wanders away. Today it made it all the way INTO the coop, where Angel was still clucking for her lost babies. I don't want to risk giving her this chick.... On the people side of distressing things, the local owner/proprietor of the Crossroads Cafe lost everything in a fire at her home today. She and her family are going to stay with her best friend (and one of mine) who works at The Pub. I so wish there was something I could do for them.

Hi Linda - so sorry to hear about your friend's losses, how fortunate no one was hurt. And about the loss of your chicks. My hens are confined until further notice due to the big gorgeous red fox who has been checking out the coop recently.

I'm sorry for your lost chicks.

How awful for those folks that lost their home.

Quote: After experiencing a house fire, though being super fortunate that most of it was smoke damage, and knowing what my own SIL went through just two months before when hers burned to the ground in less than 30 minutes, I can relate. It tears your life to shreds. Hope they get through this okay.
