No fuss no presoak just cook a little longer than the package specifies. which is perfect because the Hamhocks need quite a bit of time before the meat falls off the bones.

oh and NO salt in the pot... well except that which comes off the hamhocks. just gave the Kid (25) instructions on how to tend em so I can go have my NAP.... hee hee.

Yum, I never liked it growing up but I do now. But I have to have cornbread with it, can't eat it plain! We have it at least once a month. I do a 1 hour soak, rinse, and slow cook.

We are having roast and veggies tonight, kind of a once in a blue moon meal for us. It's smelling delicious!

Quote: Have you ever made hoe cakes..... just corn meal mixed with boiling water till it forms a ball.... then scoop about two tablespoons and smash em flat and fry em in bacon grease.... .... bout the only scratch corn meal food I do.... I do make a savory corbread from a mix though.

Grandma likes savory I like sweet. I have some Marie Calendars mix in the cubpord.... Ho yummm...

Make your own cornbread from scratch and you'll never go back. It's super simple.

We're having chili tonight, with cornbread (and my honey) of course. I have a bunch of ham hocks to use up (a friend raises our pork for us). I'm going to attempt to make split pea soup with a couple of them.

x2 nothing beats fresh homemade cornbread with fresh honey!!!!

We went to a restaurant for my husband's birthday last month and they give complimentary sopapillas. I had to box them up and take them home. Until we had our own honey it didn't matter to me, but this time I could TASTE the corn syrup they cut their honey with at the restaurant.

Wonder if it would be tacky to bring my own bottle of honey next time?
