Stella's Social Club

The pairing look great Mary. I hope Louis and Chica get their little family started. Will it be safe to go into the field? I can't imagine an angry broody Emu, sometimes the broody hens scare me.

Mary came by and picked up the 2 Icelandic cockerels. :yesss:   Those beautiful males will get some hens, and be able to reproduce. :weee She gave me a fruitcake, that suprisingly doesn't look fruitcake-like.  Mary made it, so I'm sure it's delicious.  She gave me the cutest gift, but you'll have to wait until I can take pictures first.  Mary made me promise to get a picture of it.  She left with some jam and a jar of my honey.  Her and Michael were really hoping for some honey!

Merry Christmas, cannot wait to see!

That is Louis who is in with Chica. Chica has been flirting with me and Michael and that is a sign of readiness. Well, for emu mating of course. Loca is doing it too but Stuart is out-to-lunch most of the time pacing the fence line. She laid down today in some pine boughs I threw over the fence and she stayed there for quite awhile. Loca started laying in january last year so we'll see! And you are right on about our weather. I wish the silly things would go in the shelters!

Maybe setting a Winter proof Gazebo over the nest......LOL, I would think about that

Diva! You look totally festive in that hat!

Louis isn't sitting today so we'll have to wait and see what happens. The boys just stay out in the rain, snow, heat, whatever but both girls get under the shelter. It think it is gender-related stupidity.

Heck of a Christmas Eve rain storm happening. I'm all dressed up and ready for family. Everything is done, just waiting to put stuff in the oven at the appropriate time. Thanks to Mary, I have comfortable footwear........

They are super comfy.

My Icelandic pairs are all buddied up today after cuddling on the roosts last night! It is the cutest thing.

We are still having major moisture problems in the coops. I finally convinced Michael that it is due to inadequate ventilation and condensation from the uninsulated metal roofs. Ya think?

We are working to get it under control in the big coop before tackling the smaller ones. So we opened up the front doors again to draw air in.

We are going to keep the big flaps in the back open even in the rain to allow the air to go out.

Today we installed reflective moisture barrier inside creating a 4" dead space between the rafters and the metal roof which will hopefully stop the condensation problem. It is like thick bubble wrap sandwiched between two pieces of foil. We'll check to make sure moisture isn't still forming in that space. Isi brought the girls in to see his handiwork. He always takes credit for improvements.

Skye gave it the stamp of approval. I'll have to hang the feeders from the center ceiling beam because they will get wet on the doors now.

If this isn't enough ventilation still we will add louvered vents to the sides on the tops and bottoms. We'll get this right eventually. I hope so anyway!
